Subscribe to Topix and download either just the 4.4 engine section or better still, download the lot.

Be sure to fit the updated secondary turbo drain pipe(s) if not already retro-fitted to the old engine. The new engine should have the hole in the side of the block pre-drilled, unlike the engines originally fitted to the L322 and early L405 which required a hole to be drilled into the side of the block whilst still filled with oil.

You might want to look into the oil feed pipe to the turbo’s.
Many 2011/2012 owners on here have replaced the O rings to repair a rear of engine oil leak, but it is worth knowing that later cars have a modified pipe, but, sorry I don’t know what changed.

The new engine is now being fitting with all the ancillary parts from the old engine and having the sump's swapped as this is an engine intended for an L405.

Once we got all the parts out of the car we realised that the turbo's were missing.... Shocked

Having all the injectors tested.... hope they don't need replacing.

what a jigsaw.

Anyway; just purchased two new turbo's..... what have I got myself into!

With all the bits removed, you can see from the pics that it's been sitting for a while....

Is there any benefit to using an engine from the L405? 2011 RR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

They are the same engine to the most part; though the sump is different and all the ancillary set up; but the bare long engine its the identical ford engine baring the sump.

Had all 8 injectors tested today and 7 need replacing / refurbing Crying or Very sad . Just looking at the cost of this; is there a real difference between the Land Rover ones and the OEM’s such as AllMake; which seem to be the cheapest - cheaper than refurbish the old ones....I wonder if they have the exact same flow rate. Anyone know?

I don’t know if their is anything special about 4.4 tdV8 injectors, but I have had a couple of sets of Td6 injectors refurbished at a Bosch service centre in the past and they were as good as new at a fraction of the cost .
