RSD - Random Suspension Drop? SOLVED

So was sitting inside tonight on the sofa with a film on. A bit of second screen action, checking fullfatrr.com too of course (film wasn't that great). Then I hear the FF alarm going off.

Went outside fearing a broken window but found the rear suspension both sides had dropped right down. I figure the movement set the alarm off. I've had one other RSD (Random Suspension Drop) maybe six moths ago but nothing since.

Started her up, no errors on the dash. Took the height up and down; off road then down to access height. Waited then repeated, engine running. Pumped up and down fine. (interesting it will wait for you to shut the door). Still no errors. Left it in access height and locked it.

I realise this could be a whole world of valves, airbags, receivers and compressors. But hopefully not and it will be level in the morning and I can chalk this up to RSD.

Has anyone experienced this then it's been fine again?

Greg Cheers, Greg

Not too bad - I think maybe 9 degrees overnight. 2 degrees tonight.
interesting point Nino, you're thinking cold weather related.
It's same as last time - both rears evenly dropped.

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

But seriously, I'm on level ground - so not sure what you mean...

Mine still drops the front overnight, was only when below 5 celcius, now dropping 2 odd inches irrespective of temperature.

Stripped and cleaned the valve block, nothing, used another valve block, nothing, still drops same as before.

Read somewhere that its the o-ring seals in the air springs themselves.., have 2 new bags from JLR on my garage shelf waiting for an opportunity or a moment of desire..

thanks nino and marco, great leads.
As mine is pretty infrequent, I'll keep an eye on things.
Since the rears are both dropping evenly, I think maybe not springs.
Otherwise just one corner would drop right?
Unless the circuit is joined?

The self levelling system is also a bit of a mystery to me.
I sat in traffic once on bit of a slope and felt it doing a bit of self levelling.
But other times not.

Greg

Yes, self levelling happens from time to time, I disconnected my battery when running tests to make sure that was not the reason for the overnight drop, still the same.

The 2 circuits interconnect at the valve block, but the valves are closed at power down, so if one bag leaks, the other does not drop, so by default you think that since both go down overnight at the same time it cannot possibly be the bags, but alas I think in fact it is, equal wear / damage to the bag o-rings..

At least thats what I keep telling myself given I have cleaned the valve block, properly, twice, and also because i spent a small fortune on new bags still to be fitted... Rolling Eyes
