Japanese Market satnav - will it run other maps?

My L322 2006 vehicle was originally sold in Japan and was then imported into NZ (Japanese vehicles are low mileage and RHD so we get quite a number in NZ).

The satnav does not have NZ maps loaded and just shows sea. My Discovery 3 (a 2005) had a very similar satnav and that had a NZ disc in it - my D3 was originally a UK market vehicle.

The dealer says that changing the disc to a NZ disc won't work in a Japan market satnav. This sounds fishy to me - surely the whole point of the discs is that you can change the maps?

Can anyone shed any light on that?

not 100% on this but the nav unit just reads whatever disc is in the unit in the rear cubby hole and i should imagine the gps receives the same sats as the rest of the world. ...

up to date hybrid discs are available in the UK and its possible that the same might be in your neck of woods...

can you 'borrow' a NZ disc from someone to see if it works.. ... - .- -.

If it was an earlier model, I could give you the AUST/NZ maps to try. Another Kiwi downloaded them from my Dropbox and they worked with his 2004 model. But I doubt your Nav system is the same as ours. Ron B. VK2OTC

I will try to do just that. I know the NZ maps have not been updated for a long while, but not that much changes road wise here, at least outside Auckland.

I know most of the country's intercity and rural main roads backwards by now but in the cities I get easily lost! I can of course use my phone if need be but having a built in system doing nothing is just a bit annoying!
