Crank Breather PCV hoses - which way round to connect?

The top hose (item 3 in diag) from my Oil / Cyclone valve (item 1) is connected to crankcase
The bottom hose is connected to the PCV valve like below.....

This is contradicted in the next image below which shows top hose to PCV

But which is correct - what have you got.

I have not got round to working the flow of everything to see which would look more correct - does anyone know?

Pretty sure mine is as the bottom diagram, can't think it makes any difference as both pipes go to the cyclone so doesn't matter which way round they go... Pete

I replaced mine a coupe of weeks ago and they were connected like the first picture, this is on a car that has only done 62k so assume I replaced the factory ones.

Thanks all for your resposes...

@Jamiehol - I think my installation is from new (only 89000 miles) like yours.

@Haylands - Initially I thought the same - it does not matter the direction, however if you are pulling oil laden air from crankcase into the separator I think you would want it on the lower OSV pipe, so that gravity would drag the heavier oil down, thereby allowing the cleaner air to be sucked upwards and into the pcv (if indeed that is the air flow direction - still not sure if I have got my head around how it works)

@RRPhil - thanks very much for the taking the time to find these photos - very enlightening - and they kind of agree with my own thoughts on it. In fact my gut feeling when I saw the hoses on mine was that it looked wrong which is what sparked the whole investigation.

Overall I think I have 4 votes to do it as per photos and 2 to connect as per top diagram.

As I like to think I am Democratic (SWMBO would prob suggest Autocratic, maybe even Arthritic) - I shall swap mine to suit the photos.

It is for the greater good.

Thanks to all. Thumbs Up

... Howard

Looks like I'll be swapping the hoses on mine when I get it back from the LPG installers.

What is the part no. for the PCV? I can find the hoses and the cyclone in MicroCat but not the PCV. Ron B. VK2OTC

Excellent. Thanks very much, I still can't find it in Microcat. It's illustrated on the page where the oil separator and hoese are shown but in grey and with no part no.

Now should I buy the high priced LR/BMW part or one off eBay? Smile Ron B. VK2OTC
