PCV replacement

Going to get mine replaced (04 4.4 petrol) and was wondering if I should buy anything other than the valve itself - recall hearing that the connecting pipework often needs renewing as well? Anybody know which pipes and where is best to buy them?

Yep there are 4 pipes you will probably need

Thin Breather Hose LR003814
Main Breather Hose 8510366
Main Breather Hose 8510367
Stubby Hose LLH000110

You may also want to do the Cyclone as well but they can be flushed out instead - Breather Seperator LLP000010

Dan @ Duckworths best port of call, or anyone parts place like Island 4x4

There is a good write up on here if you search on how to change them and all the parts. Current Fleet:-

2021 Ford Ranger Wildtrack
2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt 5.0 V8

Many thanks nicksaab - most helpful - managed to get all but one hose in blue Silicone for under £30 the lot.

Just a little caution -- my hoses needed to be replaced so thought I'd do the valve as well -- so I set off to my trusty mechanic with all parts in hand -- he's been mechanicing for 40 years, and I have 100% faith in his ability!

Long story short we couldn't get the Torx bolts out of the PCV, despite having a complete workshop of tools at our disposal -- so just changed to hoses.

We have knackered two bolts -- so probably an angle grinder at some point Sad

Happy bolt hunting Very Happy

If you can get them out then swap them for hex head, I changed mine when I did the valley pan and guides.
Angled head windy drill if the torx heads strip or take out the inlet manifold as the little pipe that runs under it will break off the valve anyway

Do the actual valves wear out then? - would I be safer just changing the pipes or would that be false economy - considering suggesting to my mechanic to try removing the Torx but if one strips then abort the job and just do the hoses.BTW - bushy30 if you want to sell your spare please let me know how much you would like for it.

Thanks Bushy. I can see why I couldn't find it - the item's images in the emissions control parts page and the inlet manifold parts page are totally different.

Regrettably the postage from the UK to Oz would probably preclude my taking it off your hands. Sad Ron B. VK2OTC

Storey Wilson suggests they should be changed. See  Ron B. VK2OTC

Bruno, it's the rubber diaphragm that breaks down, so yes -- Storey does say that you can swap them if the unit you have can be opened -- my replacement couldn't be opened, so haven't tried the one on the car -- I ended up simply changing hoses and cyclone.

It's a job I'll get to one day -- currently have a thermostat failure, which caused and overheat Sad -- so I'll be keeping the spare for a while -- got all the bits I needed from Island4x4 Very Happy

Duckworths were asking £112 for the valve and £12 for the thin pipe - ebay trawling got both items, inc postage, for under £60 - running my car on a tight budget so every penny counts.

Have a go doing the thermostat mod / upgrade there’s plenty of info here on the forum.

Essentially it’s a lower temperature thermostat that opens earlier and prevents overheating, there are a lot on here that have carried out the mod and had absolutely no problems. It’s a relatively easy job and if yours is goosed anyway..........

Thanks Simon, and good idea -- apart from the fact that I ordered the thermostat and had it delivered already Sad

Only then to read about the mod! I'll start another thread Wink

That’s a shame the mod really does take the strain off the engine, I’m not exaggerating when I say that the first time I started the motor and took it for a run I really could tell the difference.

Send the new one back - go on you know you want too Very Happy ______________________________
