Greg,
I should stress that I have never added any Millers to the fuel in the past, just for the last 2 tank fulls as a test to see if the soot levels slow down.
The car certainly runs well with it or without it, but on my last 120 mile round trip evidence, I have seen a dramatic improvement.
10.4g at start of journey.... 8.6g on arrival after 60 miles of motorway.
Return journey, A and B class country lanes due to motorway closure...8.6g at start... 10.1g back home, so overall ...
10.4g at start.....10.1g after 120mile round trip. Seems back to normal, but time will tell.

Just thought I'd add my (not very useful) findings.

I've not had the sensor or the drain mod done.

No smoke on acceleration, even after a few days at 1500rpm!

I have the permanent error message for the sensor, and it always reads 100C. Unless I take it over 2500rpm, then it reads a realistic temperature, so I guess 100 is the base reading for the sensor, and the car software isn't programmed to cope. It also works when a regen is taking place and reads around 600C.

My current mileage is generally the work commute - 50 miles each way, 40 miles on the motorway, but most of that is restricted to 50mph due to the roadworks on the M6 from M69 heading north.

Generally get about 550 miles to a tank of fuel. Watching the live values, I seem to get, on average, one regen each week, taking soot down from 17ish to about 2 each time.

Just to add, no additives in fuel, generally use Tesco diesel as it's local to me and cheap.

Car is 2011 4.4 with 104,000 miles.

The more we have to compare, the more accurate we will be able to say what “the norm” should be.

The WM says Active regens generally occur every 250miles... so that seems to match your weekly figure.

Thanks guys really enjoyed reading all of this I’ve just bought a range rover 4.4tdv8 2011 and within a month I had The dreaded DPF warning up The first time I regenerated get myself very easily the second time it came on it regenerated even easier than the first however The next time it happened I was on holiday with Caravan and while I was in the process of regenerating it it suddenly went into limp mode ( nightmare ) next morning I was ringing around to find somewhere that could regenerate my diesel particulate filter eventually found someone and went to car started it up and it was back to normal which I can tell you brought a big smile to my face then three weeks later Amber DPF warning came up and five minutes later red and in limp mode and there it’s steered took it to the garage and they fixed it £659 6 hours labour £80 for sensor and £120 to force regenerate dpf

Same here. I just bought a MY 11 4.4 RR from a main dealer last month.
While I was driving it back from Lancaster to Surrey, at M6 Toll, limp mode kicked in. Hardly cruised back at 50mph for almost 200 miles.

Later on, it was diagnosed as the problem with this EGR Temp Sensor A.

I brought mine to an Indy in Reading and they fixed it in just 2 hours.

Together with the diagnosis, it costs around 350 something all included.

The car feels 'tighter' when accelerating and quieter.

Definitely an essential fix.

will report back if that improves MPG.

Sooooo...after 10 years of very happy D3/D4 ownership I am now the owner of a 2011 Autobiography since yesterday afternoon. I'm already having doubts. 48 Fault Codes, 47 cleared (haven't re-checked yet) and then the P040D-00. It does have a warranty but I'm getting a wee bit angry with myself for giving in to the siren song from the FFRR. At the moment I feel like taking it back. Does it get better?

Hi Mike I had to do a regen soon after doing the sensor as the soot was already high.

That regen did give me a record burn, bringing the grams down to I think it was 1.6 from over 23g.
The regen took me way way out of London and I could see it burning and burning much longer than usual I started to feel like there was an improvement due to the sensor.

I watched this long burn at over 600 deg on the IID it kept going and then when it came off the boil, I'd come so far I by the time I got home I'd gained several grams back on the return trip which didn't fill me with confidence.

That was 21 days ago. I've done my usual town driving but also one trip to Kent which gave me some motorway miles and I saw a mini-burn (circa 360deg).

Today it's on 19.7g so getting due for a regen. If I waited for the yellow light (23g) I might make it to four weeks since last.

So early signs are maybe maybe a slight improvement but I'm not breaking out the prosecco.

B.B. is still behaving itself, but I am keeping DPF diary with screenshots and notes about usage .
I have had several 20mile sort of mixed journeys where soot level finishes lower than at start, but generally reading between 10 and 17.

So, bearing in mind its been sat here unused whilst being face lifted! & has covered 70miles since the probe was replaced. I started the car on Sat morning with the bonnet open and to my surprise a puff of smoke came up from around the fuel filter area! So i thought id better have a look and guess what i found?
The new probe had been fitted, the securing bolt cross threaded & wound in 1 1/2 threads and torqued! Shocked all the 8mm heat shield bolts hanging out! WTF!!!!! Censored
Reported it to Heritage monday morning and it took them until yesterday to say, "hmmm, can we book you in?" "erm NO" "i will be driving up to you tomorrow (today) morning to fix this so i suggest you order in a replacement probe in case this one breaks!" they suggest LR assist come and inspect the car first, which they organised. The LR Assist guy took one look and went "Heritage i suppose? Cant say I'm that surprised unfortunately" Censored Censored Censored
They tried putting every obstacle in my path to not take the car in this morning "we will get LR Assist to collect it on a truck" "we will collect it ourselves?" "we are too busy so will need it leaving and we will see if we can return it before we close for xmas next week"
Needless to say i turned up at 8.30 this morning and the keys were whisked away and at 11.30 the service manager came in with the probe in his hand and a cock n ball story "you see the probe is ever so slightly bent, this is why it didn't go in right! and it needs a replacement but. Ahem, we don't have or keep them in stock!" Needless to say, i drove his car home at lunchtime today and a very surprising phone call came in at 19.45 this evening saying they had just finished the job tonight and could i collect the car tomorrow? No apology of course! Ner Ner

That's unbelievable Craig!

Well glad you get it back tomorrow though, when I started reading I thought maybe new manifold but sounds like it's ok.

The heat shields are a bitch - no excuse of course. The thread was messy because of all the WD40 I'd sprayed in so I cleaned out the thread with cotton buds then I used the old nut to wind in and out a few times to make sure the thread was clear of small debris then I took a lot of care hand-winding the new sensor as far as my fingers could take it. Once I got the special socket on, I only turned 1/4 turns then reset it's position because it you keep winding it round I thought it might bend the sensor.

So I reckon the only reason your probe was bent is because whoever did it turned it round 360 turns putting lateral pressure on the sensor with the socket handle. It wasn't bent out of the box I am very sure!

Hope it stays put this time. Geez!

From my math, its taken them over 8 1/2 hours to clean the thread and fit the probe! Shocked oh & the heat shield bolts... Rolling Eyes
