Air Conditioning

I Have done some searching to no avail. My air con had a leak to which I ending up changing the pipe on the right hand inner wing.
Got my local Indy to fit for me and re-gas, but this didn't work. I was told that the gas hadn't leaked and there were no faults showing on the Auto-logic diagnostic tool but the pressure on both sides were identical at 10bar has any one else had a problem like this or can offer advice on where to look next. Any help would be gratefully received.

Pressure sounds low should be up in the 20's to 30's on the low side .

Sorry, psi, so 10 bar....145psi !! Shocked

My STP gauge indicates that that "happy" (filled) zone is 25-40 psi... .

I found this piece of information but it still puts mine way off

What is the correct AC pressure?
Actual readings will vary according to ambient temperature. The low-side should be near 30 PSI at 90 degrees Fahrenheit or less. Pressure that is too much lower or higher shows there is a problem. On a properly working system, high-side pressure will be about twice the ambient temperature, plus 50 PSI.

So my low pressure should be about 30 psi and mine is way too high and my high pressure should be about 112 psi still to high. have you any idea what might cause this.

The key information is the pressure on each side - low pressure and high pressure.

If you compressor is working, you should get a differential pressure between the low and high sides. If your compressor is not running, you would get equal pressures on the 2 sides. If your compressor is actually running and you get equal pressures on the 2 sides, your compressor is probably dead.

At about 90 degrees F ambient, normal working pressures with a good compressor would be about 30 to 40 psi on the low side and about 230 psi on the high side.

Looks like it might be the compressor. It goes in to the garage on Tuesday will let you know the outcome in case others get the same symptoms.

Is the pressure the same with engine stopped and running ?

If you look at the front of the compressor and the centre is spinning (so the compressor is engaged) and the pressure is the same both sides, I would agree with you, compressor fault.

If you see the pressure increase when the engine is running, it might not be the compressor, it could be the expansion valve.

This is correct Thumbs Up

With the system off/inactive, both high/low pressures should read around 5bar

With the system working, the high pressure can read as high as 15bar, with the low side down between 1.5-2 bar

Thumbs Up
