My car originally came from Japan.

The Nav etc has English display but only Japanese voice etc and no option to change that in any menu I can find. It also seems to have Japanese maps.

All radio, phone, CD etc etc is all in English on the screens. Voice control (via the steering wheel button) is in Japanese.

I assume if I install a copy of the NZ DVD (somewhat out of date but still more useful than Japan maps..) I will probably get Japanese instructions to find addresses in New Zealand!

If I replaced the screen unit with one from a NZ or UK vehicle that had been, say, accident damaged etc:

a) would I get English voice?
b) would it work with an NZ disc?
c) is it a plug and play swap, or a big job?

Ha. I have one of those. Nice picture of Mount Cook on that one.

TBH NZ is an easy place to drive - I know virtually every road in the country now in terms of getting from one place to another. The hard part (for a country boy like me) is when you have to go to cities and find places.

I could just stick a Tom Tom in of course but it grates having a built in system that is as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

TBH even an up to date LR Nav system is looking old and clunky compared with TT or Garmin units.

Our main car is an i3 and the system in that knocks spots off the Nav in the ‘07 FFRR we have, we put up with it only because it is our “occasional use” car, if we had to use it regularly a top Garmin would be our choice. David

The NZ maps are very out of date; my previous vehicle was a Discovery 3 which had more or less the same nav system in, but English and with the NZ maps.

I don't think the NZ disc has been updated since about 2005 so is well out of date even in a country that builds roads as slowly as NZ.

I suppose it just bugs me a bit not having everything working the way it should, but it would probably be easier to take a deep breath and ignore that for the 3 years I intend to run this vehicle before changing it to a newer one that will have the correct nav etc.

We have a Honda Jazz runaround that has satnav and that was also a Jap import. It shows itself as permanently sitting on the docks awaiting embarkation in Tokyo!
