Tyre Question for Sport Wheels going on to an L322 please

I have recently bought a set of Sport wheels which have no tyres on them at all, but I know that the Sports usually have 275/45/R20 Tyres. My question is, would it be safe to fit the correct size tyres for the L322 255/50/R20's? I am concerned by the safety aspect of the width. I have asked 2 places that sell tyres, and they don't know. Clearly not going to use them Laughing

Thank you

Either 255 50 20 or 275 45 20 should be fine I would have thought.

Sports have 275 40 20 as standard which are too low profile for an l322 and look lost in the arches.

Thanks. I was worried about the 255 and 275 width difference causing any issues as I don't know what J the standard L322 wheels are and what J the sport wheels are.

I have 275 45's on my 7 spoke 20's. I think the sport wheels have a lower offset which puts them further out towards the arches which isn't a bad thing.

RRS have a lower load rating, so check this also.

Make sure they are Genuine LR ones too, as replicas were also on the market. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

The 20” sport alloys are wider, by an inch, 9.5J against 8.5J and the general thoughts are that its a bit more of a stretch for 255 tyres....that’s the question you need an answer to. Hence 275 being used. If it were me, I’d stick with 275 and get the tyre profile that best matches the overall diameter of the standard 255’s. I’m no expert though. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Looks like 275/45/20 if you want that width then. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

As above i would not put 255 on anything above 8.5j. Our RRS1 has 9.5 with 275/40s' on but the winter wheels are 8.5J with 255. As you I looked but it was a no no fitting the small width on a wider wheel.

Steve.

Cheers for the advice, exactly what I was trying to find out, as I have no idea when it comes to tyres. I now plan to fit 275/50/R20 Tyres to the alloys. And yes they have the Land Rover logo's inside all of them so luckily they are genuine. Just need to get them refurbished. I was hoping though the wheels were the same width as the originals so I could spend a little less on the tyres as tyres at the size I clearly need are a lot higher than the standard 255 tyres.

Have a look at this for your tyres, as it may throw out your speedo. At least you'll know by how much.

275 50 20 will have a taller sidewall than a 255 50 20.

275 45 20 is as close as you can get to factory spec l322 sidewall but slightly wider width.

The RR Sport has 9J 19" wheels using a tyre size of 255/50 r19 or, 255/55 r19.

The RR Sport 20" alloys are 9.5J so only 12mm wider. I've seen plenty of Sports driving on Pirelli Scorpion 255/50 r20 and they look perfectly ok.
In fact, this particular brand and size seems to give more rim protection than most 275's.

You can go for 275/50/r20 or 275/55 r20 for that size rim if you prefer wider tyres.

I have just put a set of sport 19's on my L322 they have perelli zero 255/50/r19 tyres on they have a slightly different offset I believe it is only a couple of mm. They perform fine but you need to buy the sport wheel nuts for them as the holes in the rim are considerably bigger than the L322 rim.
The smaller tyres will effect the speedo by about 3% but my speedo was also out with the correct 18's 255/55/r18 tyres so now I am about 4 mph adrift.

Hi Horsedentist.

Your tyres are a full 1 inch under diameter and no wonder your speedo is out. Your standard tyre should be 255/55/r19 or 255/50/r20.

Some people go for 255/55/r20 which improves the ride and will give you slightly taller gearing as well as filling out the arches nicely.
A 50 profile tyre on a 19" rim must look tiny on an RR?
