When does it go into Park automatically? Mine warns it’s not in P, so I put it in P and get out.... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Same as on the D4's just push the starter button, the engine will switch off and 'bong' that the gearbox isn't in P and then it will turn to P and lower itself down Thumbs Up Cheers Ian

Got the rotary thing in my Ewok I hate it. Woefully awful piece of design, slow, unintuitive, you have to look at the thing to use it. How crap is that. The fact that it rises majestically out of the console pales rapidly beside the accidental neutrals and parks. Graham

I've too often partly or fully exited the vehicle with the selector in reverse when diving out to close a gate behind me because the notch before Park makes me think the selector is indeed in Park. I try to listen for the beep from selecting reverse but sometimes don't hear it, either at all or I'm already outside the vehicle before the beep registers. I have occasionally returned to the vehicle to find it in reverse, a chilling find considering that I've been behind the vehicle with my back to it.

`if you put the parking brake on you can leave the vehicle in any gear you like "accidentally of course" I certainly wouldn't exit leaving the vehicle without applying the parking brake... That could be REALLY dangerous Shocked

For,my 2 pennies, worth, am used to the 8 speed, rotary and 6'speed with a stick ( will refrain from using knob as could get me in trouble!!). The 8 speed rotary with paddle shifts is way better ie economy and smoothness, but the one thing I like about the stick is its advantage in overtaking, without looking you can just knock the stick over for sport mode as quick as a flash. But with rotary you do tend to look down which means you're taking your eyes off the road for a split second.

the tdv8 4.4 with rotary in auto mode is more than capable to make overtaking maneuvers without using the sport mode and paddles..

Why do you have to look down? Feel for the dial (its where it was last time you used it), one click clockwise, job done BMW i3 Electric Car

One click - and the selection you have made appears on the TFT display - which, unless you have tunnel vision, is in your eyeline and can be seen/noticed without looking away from the road.

If you remember. to go clockwide If you go anticlock you get neutral which with a bootful of gas is not a good thing. Graham

To be honest, if you cant remember the positions on the dial, you wouldn't remember them on the gear lever either. BMW i3 Electric Car

Ive had four cars with a rotary dial, i drive quite quickly from time to time and have never once used S mode!

Maybe its my mechanically sympathetic mind?...

Or the type of road.....

At certain speeds, S gives a much smoother pick up off roundabouts IMHO because you’re in the right gear with no need to kick down.
