A/C Gas Recharge - How many grams for my car ?

Can anybody tell me how to find out how much a/c gas is need in my 2012 4.4 TD8 Westminster ?
The yellow sticker under the bonnet has 2 values - 700g for front only and 880g for front and rear.

How can I tell if my car has rear Air conditioning ?
There are controls and vents in the back (see photo) but does the presence of these mean that it has the rear air-conditioning and needs 880g of gas or are they just controls for the blower fan ?

I believe that over filling the gas can damage the compressor etc.
I have had it re-gassed at kwik-fit today but i told them to only put in 700g just in case.
They told me they would top it up to 880g f.o.c next week if I can find out how much it should have in
The air from the vents is now cool but not what you would call cold.
Many thanks in advance.

Those controls are for the front only air con - so 700g is correct for your vehicle.

The rear passenger 4 zone air-con controls are as below:

You also get a switch in the front centre console to turn off the rear air con:

Hope this helps,

Oh, BTW - Your controls are not just for the blower fan, but will also vary the amount of hot-coolant making it to the rear heat exchanger via an electronically controlled valve in the engine bay.

So the rear passengers have an element of control over how hot the air coming out of the rear vents is.

Hi Jon

Thanks for your reply

My car does have the switch in the front centre console to turn off the rear air con ? / blower ? / controls ? (not sure exactly what it does) which comes on by default.

Does that change anything or do you still think 700g is correct ?

Also

The heat control knob has blue markings if you turn it anti-clockwise (and red if clockwise) which suggests cooling. I would have expected just red dots getting gradually smaller if was just heating only

Ah, ok.. my misunderstanding on that button. Thinking about it my earlier L322 had that switch as well and it didn't have 4 zone climate. It's just to stop rear passengers (kids) messing with the heat control / fan speed.

I'm 100% certain, you don't have rear air-con. Those pictures were of my 2011 Vogue SE (now gone), so if you had 4 zone climate, you'd definitely have those controls.

Put your VIN into the link below, it'll give you the build spec of your car as a huge block of text. Read through it to see if you can find reference to climate zones.

I think that the blue / red marking on the temp knob just indicate which way to turn for hotter / cooler.

Whilst the 2011 brochure doesn't cover the Westminster, I just checked it, and 4 zone climate was an option on all cars, even the Autobiography.

The Westminster spec sits somewhere between a Vogue and a Vogue SE, so it wouldn't have had 4 zone climate as standard unless the original purchaser up-specced the car.

If your AC is not working properly the usual culprit on these models is the compressor and not low refrigerant 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Put the front on full hot, put the rear on full cold... if it's icy in the back you have four zone...

I agree it looks like you just have two zone though...!! Pete
