What did I do this week...

Mostly spent it on the phone and email to PF Jones about a towbar I paid them handsomely to supply and fit...

Just like to say - they are not the cheapest, but I went there because of the feedback - here and elsewhere - that was generally favourable about them. Never again.

I'd ordered the towbar to be fitted at work on Friday (today) and they were meant to send the parts (Westfalia removeable flange towbar, 13 pin vehicle specific electrics, 13pin to twin 7 pin adaptor, 1" spacer, 2 X 100mm bolts and Alko towball) to him.

On Tuesday at work (a secure data centre) UPS rock up and try to deliver two great big boxes. Luckily I wasn't in a meeting or anything when the chap came and I was able to meet him in the car park and put the boxes in the car.

I rang PFJ and they did (fair play to them) arrange for the fitter to come on Thursday instead - at least it reduced how long I was taking the boxes around the country. He actually turned up Wednesday PM - but, again I was there and had the bits in the car - at least I thought I did. He got on with his fitting until he discovered they'd sent the wrong electrics, no towball and no bolts, no 13pin to twin 7 pin adaptor, no 2 X 100mm bolts and no Alko towball.

He had to go to their depot in Stoke that night and picked up the electric kit for my car and came back the next morning to fit it - but had no idea about coding the car (luckily IID tool can do it) and claimed never to have coded one...

PFJ told me they'd sent the rest of the bits, including the missing plastic plug to go in the receiver when the towball isn't fitted, for next day delivery. Noting arrived the next day, but today, UPS rocked up (at my home this time) with a tiny bag. Inside ws the 13 pin to twin 7 pin adaptor and two bolts - 1 is 100mm, the other is about 85...

So - I'm still without the Alko Towball, the correct bolts and the plastic finisher.

So - not impressed with PF Jones,

Sadly true.

For the thick end of £800 you expect it to be about right don't you.

Welcome to the Victor Meldrew club.

I’m 48, and definitely over the last 4 years, I can feel myself turning into my Dad...... How do these people survive on a day to day basis?

Hopefully after a few more deliveries of parts, you will get what you need.

As a side note, a friend of mine paid £2000 for garden furniture and had it delivered in May. In June she gets an email saying they are going to deliver her garden furniture the next day. She phones them up and says she doesn’t want it. They say they will cancel her order then and refund the money....no she says...I’m sat on it, I already have it. I don’t want 2 sets. We will cancel your order then. A week later £2000 is refunded to her account.

You can’t teach stupid. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Like you, I can never understand how some companies stay in business.

I'm 56 now and became a grumpy old git at about 24...

dont get me started on the idiots in call centres phenomenon!!!

Spent the entire of last week on hold to Scottish power after that had failed twice to get their contractor to remove a gas meter from a property we are demolishing, because they have a standing order with the contractor not to do removals until they have finished with the smart metering roll out! Hows that work then I asked. To be told alternatley that they could/could not book me an appointment!

Easiest way is to raise a formal complaint. that actually gets these folks going, and gets you past the facade of idiocy into the inner sanctum of folks with a brain and more joined up thinking. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I used to complain when I was badly treated by a business and had success every time by being a bit savvy on retail laws etc. It happens so often now that I've actually given up trying. I accept that almost everyone is going to screw up in some way and try to plan for it instead. My embattled brain has relaxed and I can laugh at the fools who try to wind me up. Not happening I tell you. Well not until the salesman at the dealership told me he's not accepting or repairing anything else because now I'm looking for issues. That made me see red tbh. His boss is much nicer to talk to and understands that the salesman is very young and doesn't quite appreciate how emotionally charged some customers can be when confronted by a little oik!

There must be a factory somewhere that churns them out (or is it an Essex thing).
Know nothings in skinny suits barely able to grow the stubble on their cheeks.
So used to people spending big numbers on cars that sell with only the odd glib lie to help it on its way.
There seems to be a presumption that the customer is an inconvenience to be fobbed off and treated like a fool.
They don't actually appreciate its the people buying the cars new and used that keep them in a job.
Or that to be in a position to buy one of these cars you normally need to be far from a fool.
Rant over, blood pressure coming off the boil.

I got taught you can never plan for the stupidiness of others, it will get you every time.

Was just about to order a towbar from PF Jones myself. Might look elsewhere first now, thanks for the review.

Whilst I may have been unlucky, I think you are wise!

I cut out the hassle and bought the missing parts elsewhere and fitted them myself.
