Annoyed

New wheels and tyres, done less than 1000 miles and had a puncture in a Michellin Latitude, put the spare on, that had a flamin egg in the tread. Limped to the local tyre place, new tyre needed x 2 the Michellin couldn't be repaired and the space saver needed replacing £350 lighter car now back, feeling depressed. BMW i3 Electric Car

Sad but at least you got to the tyre place under your own steam. I can remember years ago getting a puncture in a brand new Michelin Pilot Sport (having just put 5 new tyres on given the full size spare). And miles better than the puncture on His X3 recently. No spare and ended up having to call BMW recovery to take to the dealer - who then took three days to get a tyre!

If it's a nail and not a split I suggest you try a motorcycle puncture repair kit. The brown 'sticky string' is great. Lost count of how many bike punctures I have repaired at the side of the road with these.
Get a small 12v compressor too.
At least these will get you out of trouble.

Why was it not repairable ?
It is usually just because the garage don't know how far you have driven on a flat (why they generally don't repair run flats) so won't warrant the repair.
My local tyre place told me of a guy that drove all the way from south of France with a punctured run flat up the autoroute and thought they would repair it Laughing

If it's a cut I can understand, but if it's a nail and you havent gone far it's almost certainly repairable. There are even sidewall patches available depending on the profile.

I've repaired a run flat on the wife's previous car that the garage wouldn't, and also tyres on my van and previous rangey.
All tyres were run til worn out without issue after the repair.
I knew the cars hadn't gone far from picking up the punctures so it was worth a shot.

A bit late for you now, but worth getting the sticky string and compressor for next time Wink Too many toys, not enough time

I had only driven about 1/2 mile from home when I discovered the puncture (very little noticeable from the drivers seat). Unfortunately it had done major damage to the sidewall.

I do have a decent compressor in the car, this bad boy, pumped up the flat in less than 2 minutes.

Both tyres now replaced, I'll bear in mind what you have said for next time. BMW i3 Electric Car
