MAP & charge air temp sensors clean on 4.4TDV8(MY11)

Edited as now consider the MAF is wrongly identified and may be a charge air temperature sensor (CATemp)

(thanks to GraemeS for pointing to this error.)

Hope this helps

Remove the cover from the engine top.

From photo

remove hose clips 1 & 2 and hose being particularly careful to avoid moving or damaging 3 & 3a

remove hose clip 4 and slide hose off

remove connector 5, press at rear to release clip and remove, again with care.

clip 6 needs to be released by moving ends apart and easing out of grooves.

carefully ease away the plastic section containing the CATemp sensor.

Clean and replace in the reverse order. Electrical contact cleaner did the job for me. The sensor is most likely a fragile device, treat with respect.

MAP sensor cleaning

remove Torx screw from 7 and ease out the sensor, it's fitted with an o-ring. Clean and replace.

As a precaution, inspect the joint 3a for any signs of leakage of coolant, visible with a pink tinge. Replace the section. It appears to be only available as an £80+ part, although there is a repair, done I think be nino-nino.
Break the connector 3 and you're in for a bill of £40+ unless you can source a correct sized connector from the interwebs thingy.

The part referred to as the CATemp sensor may be incorrectly identified. It appears not to be listed in the microcat but only comes as part of the housing and pipe. No cost info available at this time to me. Cheers
Richard

Hi there , this is very useful - I’ve just snapped part 3a changing the intercooler hose.

I can’t find the part number anywhere, does anyone have a clue?

Cheers

Welcome to the club (as I know too well)

IIRC the part number is

LR029140 | Coolant Hose - Radiator - 4.4D V8 | Range Rover L322 (DO CHECK)

Was about £80 now seems to be about £90 plus.
Link for info, I have no interset in the outfit. Suggest Paul Redding at Advanced Factors (site sponsor) as a start tomorrow.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/RANGE-ROVER-L322-...4393608990

The bit you need is only available as part of the whole assembly AFAIK.

Pleased the post was useful Thumbs Up Cheers

As an aside PART 3 in the photo is rather difficult to remove. Fiddly connector similar to fuel lines, with a small piece you press in to allow a gentle pulll to release. I used a set of "fuel line connetor pliers" on mine. Cheers

Much Obliged Richard, I’ve ordered the part from LR Parts £86 plus the VAT.

Rather annoying as I was changing the intercooler/throttle body hose owing to finding a lot of gunk round it after a ‘restricted performance’ warning and it was all going so well.

Even more annoying is that I’ve got a fair few miles to cover in the next few days and I doubt my superglue fix will hold so I’ll have to take the Defender - not that I don’t love it, but when you’ve got miles to cover, I know which I prefer.

Anyway, thanks again - FFRR to the rescue again.

I did the same just a few days ago while stripping for my pulley renewal. Very annoying especially as I was trying my best to be careful!

Duckworths was about £85 if I recall. And part number is as rjff states above

I’ve ordered my replacement but am temped to botch repair and reuse the current one, as I’ll be removing it again next month to clean the throttle body, and oil cooler replacement! I’d hate to break it twice… Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Cleaned my MAP sensor again the other day <5k miles since the last clean and it was blocked again so this looks like a regular job. Not done the IAT as reckon this is less sensitive to contamination and is the wrong side of the throttle but do fancy cleaning the throttle. What’s the nature of the weak plastic part on the coolant hose - maybe something I can make up out of aluminium in my workshop? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Not sure what the purpose of the broken pipe is for, but goes off to some cooler on the right of the engine bay.

This is the part in situ…

And this is after gently and carefully breaking it Censored Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Looks like a heat exchanger to warm the intake air on very cold startups?
Also looks like there is a cheap fix

Ah, I wish I found that before ordering the new part!

I have a co-ax connector lying around in my tool box too.

I might try the fix and return the new part… or keep it as a spare / backup part.

I broke mine last year, (oil cooler change) did a quick super glue bodge to get me by.

Then I purchased one of these
BSP taper thread tail end
https://www.fullfatrr.com/gallery/albums/u...114740.png

I drilled out the hsg slightly small then I was able to use the fitting to work back and forth to cut the thread into the plastic.
I used araldite to make it permanent.
Slipped the original hose over the other end with a suitable tiny clamp.

According to my ebay purchases it was 1/8 BSP and 8mm internal hose diameter, £2.60.
I've done around 5K since my permanent repair last march with no problems (touch wood of course!) Anything can be made to work if you fiddle with it long enough (and have deep pockets|)
Current cars, 2011 FF 4.4 TVD8; Audit TT 1.8T convertible.

Think I may make one up on my lathe from some brass or aluminium as an emergency spare......
What's the bore size on the plastic part ? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

In case of use to others, I drilled and tapped for a brass 1/8 tapered BSP to 3/8 (10mm) barb and replaced the 90 deg elbow on the other end with a brass 3/8 double barb fitting after it too broke. The 90 deg fitting has 3/8 (10mm) coming from the thermostat housing so is the correct size for my solution.
The hose is the bleed hose from the thermostat housing.
