How would you fix this TCO oil leak?

Hi guys, hope all is well..

Over the weekend, I found my latest blocker to getting my SC on the road.. Looks like one of the Transmission Oil Cooler oil lines is leaking.. what appears to be from the O-Ring inside the connector.

How would you go about this?

Current options are (all DIY):

* Replace entire line(s) from cooler to transmission - the most expensive and time consuming/complex.
* Cut off the rubber line and replace with a new rubber line and fix with Jubilee clips/ Oetiker clamps.
* Try and remove the existing connector and replace the O-Ring inside it.

What would you do or have you done?

it looks to me like there is enough pipe left if you cut the fitting off and extended the hose as you suggest, although I guess to do a really good job you'll need the cooler off and on the bench

Ok, so quick update on this.. it's not actually the TCO. (Transmission Oil Cooler)..

It's the engine oil cooler.

The QR fitting was all crusted up inside (upon later inspection) and it just wasn't coming off... I cut away the hose and was able to swivel the QR fitting around.

So, I got my dremel and cut the collar vertically and peeled it back, and off it came..

I ended up with the following

Next job is to find a replacement. Two options:

1. OEM replacement from Land Rover.
2. Suitable hosepipe and clamps. (07) 2007 3.6 TDV8 L322 - 135k miles.
(05) 2006 MY Supercharged L322 - Zambezi Silver on Jet Black - 162k miles.

So.. I fixed this.


Now I am sure some people won't agree with how it was done but. The complete pipe was available from LR for about £110 .. and looked a little more awkward to do.

This fix was simple and will allow me to get the car on the road, as I've yet to drive it properly. I need to see how it fairs on the road before proceeding to cross all the t's and dot the i's on it's refurb etc..

For reference the factory parts are here and here from Island4x4. I did the rubber portion of the second link today.

I wonder has anybody done the full repair and how much hassle it is?

I bought a 90 degree rubber pipe bend from a local agri machine supply shop, along with 4 Jubilee clips. I know there are other ones recommended but supposedly can't get them that small. Anyway, Clips on each side of the collars on the receiving pipe should be pretty solid.

Here are both ends exposed - which are to be joined by the hose.

You can see how they are kind of crusty.




Tidied this one up with a bit sandpaper. The other one I didn't do much with really, as i'll probably swap the pipe out at a later stage anyway. The tissue was to prevent any grit coming off the sand paper and going into the line.

What I ended up with was this.

2 Jubilee clips on each end, between the ridges on the pipe. Considering one of the clips on the factory install was a hose clamp you see on coolant lines, I don't think this is going anywhere or going to leak. I think both ends are pretty well locked on.

A more seasoned mechanic out in the unit advised I fit the clips on alternate directions to ensure a more complete seal.

Oh and I had to laugh... so this oil leak has clearly been going on for a long time... before this install I cleaned off the subframe from all the caked oil. The part I cleaned up is like new like it came out of the factory.. I swear.. it is literally the only part of the car that is clean, everything else is rusted up lol.
