Isle Of Man 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Alveston Red
Changed the Battery.... Now in Lockdown!

Hi there and greetings from a windy Isle of Man!
I have a 2006 Vogue 4.2 Supercharged with just 49k on the clock and have been having some battery issues recently, before giving up and replacing the huge 110AH Battery I tried a deep condition charge, but 2 days later she was dead. As a quick fix a Defender mate of mine offered me a spare 90AH slightly smaller Varta unit... Fitted it the other day, Started her up, All Good.... Tuned the radio.... left warming up for 5 Mins, all good, so I thought...

then.. went to move car, Gear selector stuck in Park, switch off and cannot remove key (like when you try to remove the key in Drive - key gets 9/10 home but stops there and will not remove). So just by swapping the battery, I've got a RR that starts and runs fine, but is stuck in Park and I have to use the 2nd key manually to lock the car up! Have tried battery back off for 24hrs, still the same after reconnect.
Brake Lights are working as well...
I'm thinking this must be resettable (hopefully) only error on dash is "Key still in" when you open the drivers door! Google not helping yet!

Welcome.....

I’m not an expert, as touch wood, not had battery issues with any of mine.

I know if the batteries get low the computers can get themselves in a right mess. I trickle charge mine from time to time as I only do mainly shortish journeys.

Members have found doing a battery reset helpfull.... have a search, it something like disconnecting the battery and then holding the negative and positive cables together for a few seconds.

Sorry I can’t be more help.

Welcome

As MJD says try a battery reset.

If the vehicle is stuck in park it is being inhibited by the interlock on the transmission, which prevents the lever being moved out of park without the brake pedal being pressed. Get in press the brake and check that the brake lights come on, as I'm pretty sure its the same switch which does both, if you have no brake lights then there may be a fault with the switch.

As far as the key not coming out, that could also be an issue with Park. if the car isn't fully in P then it stops the key being removed. I would suggest investigating if there is full movement in the gearbox linkage or something stopping it fully engaging park. I reckon both things are connected and Park related. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Looks like you will be able to get it going, so at least you can drive to a garage.
