The old "no sound" help

Hi everyone.

Picked up a 2004 Vogue yesterday, and there is no sound from anything on the stereo. Having read previous threads, I can tell you the following:

I have checked for water and all seems dry in there (although it has been wet before).

The headunit does show DSP as an option.

I have removed all the boxes from the back (amp, DSP, TV tuner etc) and pins and connectors seem OK.

There IS an orange dot when I power up on the HU-and all the buttons work (eg the radio tunes OK and the CD registers).

Now the ODD thing. I removed the fuse from the main fuse box for audio, and very briefly everything worked OK-all speakers were good but it went off after 3 mins or so. And removing the fuse a second time did nothing.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you

Phil

Phil,

Get inside the boxes and look for any kind of crusty stuff white or green!

I bet you'll find some!

Thanks-I have been inside the BM54, that looked good.

Do i need to open the DSP do you think?

The one box that looks as if its been wet is the TV module. Now, I dont want or need that to work, but could that box affect the sound as well?

Thanks again Thumbs Up

Hi Phil,

Yes indeed -- they can all mess with things -- best to inspect both sides of all boards Very Happy

As above you really need to look inside the various module cases for corrosion.
You could also check the 10A fuse on the top of the bm54 radio tuner.
I seem to recall you can byepass the tv module by uncliping the two plugs and joining them together but I could be wrong.

With sound off and screen on, I'd start with the DSP and then work your way out. Good chance it'll be that one

Same fault on mine was caused by a dodgy pin on the DSP

It's the vertical black box with 3 plugs on the top nearest the back of the car. Thumbs Up

Found a wet and dirty connector on the top of the TV module. Not sure if that can affect things but will clean anyway

Thumbs Up Don't assume that it'll be the only one -- the inside of my DSP was GREEN and crusty! Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

The three plugs can definitely be undone. You definitely need to get the biggest plug undone and check for corrosion. There is a slide clip on the plug you need to undo before the plug will come out.
Contact cleaner is you best bet for cleaning.
Be very careful, the pins in the sockets are very thin, even more so if they have corroded.
