Washer Jets

Hi,
My windscreen washer jets have packed up after a little bit of snow and ice. Do they have to be replaced or can they be unblocked??? If so would be grateful for an idiots guide on how to remove them for replacement/ repair!! See there's an electrical connector and rubber pipe to remove, any other info would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Are they not just frozen sir? Don't know how warm the weather has got down your neck of the woods? Seems strange they have both blocked! Remove the tubing going to your bonnet then press wash and see if you have flow first Thumbs Up

Each washer jet has a lip at the front (windscreen) and a squeezy tang at the rear (bonnet front).

You squeeze the tang while pushing the jet up out of it's slot in the bonnet.

But.....beware, you need to take the hose and electrical connector off first because the hole isn't big enough to get the connected jet out and you risk snapping off the hose connector, necessitating replacement.

Try a small pin as your jets may be blocked by grit. Disconnect the hose and blow compressed air into the jet from the outside/top, blowing any crap out of the hose connector.

Mike

Having had the same problem after freezing, once removed I've disassenbled the jet unit, inside is a small spring and a small red rubber grommet that appeared to have been dislodged from its normal position and blocked any fluid flowing through to the jets.

I suspect its a one way valve type arrangement but I ended up just picking the rubber part out completely and the jets returned to what seemed like normal operation.

^ Spot on. Thumbs Up

It is indeed an non return valve to stop the washer liquid draining back into the washer bottle.
Had exactly the same problem on both jets a few years ago and as above disassembled the jets, removed the gubins and all has worked perfectly since. I half expected the liquid to drain back but surprisingly the jets work instantly when required.
Not worth buying new jets.
