I seem to recall that Varta batteries have a 3 year warranty. It's certainly worth a try.

I wouldn't buy a new one, I would take the old one back for exchange, rather than get a refund after buying a new battery. Otherwise you may end up with two batteries. Lol. Batteries will have a date of manufacture stamp somewhere, so even if you lost your receipt you should be ok. Td6 SE

FFRR wont start - flat (dead as a dodo) battery

Been having drain issues for a while on the TD6, battery is completely dead and FFRR wouldnt even start just now when connected up to mrsblonde 3.0 Audi with jump leads, left of for 15 minutes, is this only because the battery is so dead, or could it be something else?? Rolling Eyes

Hoping its just the flatter than flat battery...........

I definately need a new battery, had the FFRR connected up to the wifes Audi 3.0 for 20 mins and still wouldnt start, I'm guessing its flatter than flat and beyond help? Phoned battery2u who I bought from, the guy at liverpool told me to see a local dealer, local dealer said to call Varta direct and arrange a test with them, that sound right?

Your entire contract is with the retailer - it's up them to sort it - you have no contract with Varta - the retailer bought the battery off them - you bought it off him.

Tell him to sort it pronto.

I've done the same before now, left something on and really flattened it. Wouldn't start off jump leads even though my leads are top quality (hand made and expensive) ones. Was trying to jump off a Volvo XC90 and it almost stalled when I was cranking the TDV8 Laughing Laughing

If you're going to charge it off the Audi then disconnect the earth cable on the RR and leave it running for at least 30 minutes. Even with a 100 amp alternator you're still only putting 50AH into a 110AH battery - less than half charge. Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

Just had a LR tech out to my car. Turns out the problem I had is alternator related, not battery Sad see other post about causing havoc in the middle of Cambridge...

He was really condescending of the Varta / Bosch batteries and recommended only fitting genuine LR batteries. No surprise there I can hear you say, possibly understandably, but his criticism was that they could not take a recharge as quickly as genuine batteries can.

Therefore if you're only doing short runs the constant starting will discharge a battery whereas a genuine part can recharge twice as fast.

I am no techie so am not passing judgement on his opinion, bit thought I should let you all know and would be interested to hear others informed views.

He also said he rarely sees dead batteries on pre MY10 FF's - a dead car (dies while being driven) tends to be either a knackered alternator, completely kaput engine or out of fuel.

Odd that, I thought Genuine LR Batteries were made by Varta in any event and also rebranded as Bosch?

Can't pass judgement I am afraid as I don't know. Just passing on what he said. Probably fairer to say he was condescending of the battery I had fitted (Bosch s5 020 as discussed on here and the Europarts recommended fit) rather than Bosch/Varta in general.
