hi mat

How did you get the carpc to intergrate with the exsisting system like you have as this is exactly how i would want mine i spoke to somebody from carpc in bristol he said i would need a serperate screen and wouldnt be able to intergrate it.

Mine is a 2006 using the most based bus i take it this is very different to the ibus stuff?

Hi mate, yes the MOST network is VERY VERY different to the ibus system - i am using a ibus USB adapter to connect the pc to the cars ibus network then using a custom plugin to read/write to the ibus network. the person who you spoke to at carpc is parcially correct you may need a second screen for the pc although i have seen someone intergrate the factory screen with a pc (only the video not the touch panel) it was in a range rover sport but the prinipals are the same as its the same system.

You can convert the original touch screen to operate a pc quite easy ( I have done it )

But getting a decent quality video feed into the screen is the biggest issue .

Have a peek here http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic21001.h...Bcar+%2Bpc

It's on a D3 but it's the same screen as the FFRR

What did you use for a feed in Wiggs? Been looking at GVIF but... Used to have:
2005 FFRR 4.4 Vogue - BRC LPG Conversion & Remapped

Now have:
2008 SSRR 3.6 TDV8 - HSE and plenty of toys

I did have a GVIF unit which had a pc input (VGA ) ..unfortunatly never worked correctly and i sent it back .

They sent me a GVIF unit with no pc connector back Twisted Evil

You can go into the rear of the screen with a composite input ...good enough if you are using a car front end with big butons ..but a bit of a pain trying to read windows files

my carpc project is based on the non touch screen version of the infotatinment system e.g. pre 2005 it will not work on the later touch screen based vehicles at the moment because they dont use ibus to connumcate between the different modules.

hi all, just wanted to post an update as its a while since i last posted about the carpc project, its been a busy time at the moment as im getting ready to move in a house with my brothers so i apologise for the delay in posting.

I have just finished working on the full factory radio control from the carpc software and will post a video demoing it, also we now have the ability to display what is in video areas 0 and 1 of the factory screen in the carpc software (areas 0 and 1 are where the radio station name and FM labels are located, it also shows you what audio mode you have the car in e.g. radio, cd, aux etc...)

Will record and post a video in a few days

Love the project!

Might consider doing a cheapskate version by just sticking a laptop in the back and some USB webcams.. those webcams that follow faces would make for epic perv vision Laughing

Can't wait to see the completed system installed and working!, and thanks for the videos!

Hi everyone!

Sorry about the VERY VERY long delay since my last post about this project, the project has been boxed up since we moved into our new house about 6 months ago but today is the day im starting working on the project again. I everything is pretty much finished software side but i am just stuck on getting the physical buttons of the new screen bezel connected to the pc so that they will operate the software. If anyone has any ideas on how to do this then please PM me

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,
Nice to see you back. Looking fwd to seeing you finish up!

I always just imagined gutting a keyboard (or mini keyboard - something with a very small encoder board) and defining several custom key functions.

Alternatively you can use a switch interface - though most of these are surprisingly expensive. http://www.bltt.org/hardware/switchinterfaces.htm

I also posted a link in a thread by daveo a couple of weeks ago about using a PS2 controller with a PC (he was looking for a way to use the 2010 steering wheel controls with his carPC). You could do something along those lines - lots of switches to choose from. (I don't think Dave was too excited about the idea....)
