Bottle Jack or Trolley Jack?

Trying to decide between the Sprinter bottle jack and a trolley jack. Either way I'll also get some Axel stands but not sure whether to go for the convenience of the smaller bottle jack or a sturdy trolley jack like the one below.

Anyone who has both or used both on their L322 that can share any thoughts?

Many thanks

The sprinter bottle jack is used by folk who dont trust the standard scissor jack at the roadside for an emergency wheel change. If you are after a jack to raise the car to work on then a trolley jack and axle stands is the way to go.
You need to decide what it willbe used for Thumbs Up 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

Thanks for the advice.

One thing I'm not clear on is how much height needs to be achieved to get a wheel off the ground. I see the bottle jack has 570mm max height but the trolley jacks are around 465mm and I'm not sure if this is sufficient?

Many thanks

I just bought this jack from SGS and used out for the first time today to swap to my summer wheels / tyres - it did the job very well Thumbs Up

However, I have an L405 with deployable steps, so have a much lower jacking point than the L322 - my Sprinter jack is too tall to even fit between the jacking point & the ground.

As above though, a trolley jack is much better at home, but you don't want to be transporting it. A bottle jack can be stored in the car, but not quite as easy to use....

I don't know how much height you need, but I'd use the factory jack & measure it for myself Thumbs Up

I lift it under the suspension with a trolley jack or a Disco 2 red bottle jack with a U shaped saddle.
Only need to lift it a few inches to change a wheel Thumbs Up

Thanks all.

DrRob that’s an interesting idea - do you position the jack under the suspension arm? My only worry would be if that’s ok on the suspension air bag?

with a jack under the suspension arm your fine for wheel changes - as said it only needs lifting a couple if inches.
yiu won't get a bottle jack under there though as it's so low. very easy with even cheap trolley jack. Paul,

Nino_nino, thanks for those photos, I'd forgotten how short the double piston Discovery 2 jack is!
Last time I took it out of the box at the front of our Disco was quite a few years ago.
Maybe I should put it in the RR to replace the pathetic scissor jack Laughing Paul,

Those red jacks are perfect for changing a wheel and much safer than the scissor jack.... Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Tyre fitters, and me, never use jacking points. Always under a suspension arm or subframe. A lot less lift needed so much more stable.
Even with a scissor jack , use a block of wood under the bottom mount for better load spread and lift away.
Much safer. 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

Thanks guys, think I'm going to go with one of the Disco jacks for now and maybe invest in a trolley jack later.

Do you lift while the car is in regular, high or access mode? I'm assuming regular but better to ask.

WB, in the normal height if you are lifting just wheels and offroad height if lifting using jacking points. I use piece of 4"x4" under jack when lifting using jacking points. everything fits nicely in the storage bin in the beck.
