Sunroof seal is this normal?

My sunroofs seal has a weird bump at the rear in the middle. Is this normal??

I tried pushing it down but it’s solid.

Anyone lol?

I read somewhere that this seal with the furry / velvet sourround is actually not that important? Regards

And i also tried to push it inside cos i thought i could stick it back but its very hard.

i think its age related problem, but lets see if someone has any solution for it.

I once drove my L322 at full suspension height with the sunroof tilted into my car-port.
That resulted in the seal you identify being pulled out of the tapered slot in the sunroof glass by the low first (wood) beam in the roof.

So my suggestion would be not to use a sealant, but to tilt the sunroof and try to refit the rubber/felt seal back into the slot as I did - it was not to hard a job to do, but involved a step-ladder and towels on the roof so I could lean-in and really see what I was doing (and I'm 6'2"!) - at arms length it was not going to play ball and re-seat properly.

I’ll take a look tonight then.

Should I tutor the sunroof yeah ?

Hopefully it will push back in but I think the metal or whatever is inside the rubber must be bent. It feels really solid when I tried to push it down again with sunroof closed. Regards

With the sunroof open, push in-line with the glass (i.e. towards the front of the car)

If I remember correctly, the rubber/glass interface is like a dovetail joint, so there may be a bit of wiggling involved.

Forgive the scrappy picture, but you get the idea.

Thanks buddy I will take a look.

Looks like I may have to pull it out then squish it down slightly before popping it back in although I have a feeling it is seated in the dovetail correctly. Just lifted on the upper Regards

Well pulled off and played with the seal. Mine was seated right but at some point some previous owner has damaged it. So for some reason it’s lifted.

I needed up putting a very small amount of black gunge in there just to help with the gap. There is still a gap where the two ends meet at the fury part and I didn’t want to spooge that bit.

Having a look at it I think that it’s not really a water seal as such but more a seal to stop bigger things getting in there. Maybe someone can confirm this??

Hopefully me messing about with it won’t have caused it to leak or anything. Kind of wished I had left it alone lol. Pain in the backside as always.
