Japan 2011 Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue Auto Santorini Black
Back at the dealers

Second Sunday in a row that the nice LR assist team have had to help me out.

Having had it go into limp mode three times last Sunday, the dealer had it until Thursday. Friday drove it to work and back, didn't use yesterday, today couldn't use!

Totally flat battery.

Got the LR assist chap to jump start and follow me to dealers, left them with the key and a demand for a new battery!

BTW, downside of handle covers...........have to remove when you want to unlock the vehicle when the battery is dead!
Good tip, pour last boiling water over the part to remove, automotive tape adhesive releases with damage (same as removing badges etc). Gerry

I have handle covers but mine have a hole for the drivers key.

Can you drill a hole now that it's off ?

Sorry to hear your having problems, there is a hole on the underneath of the passenger door handle that you can use the key to remove to expose the lock.
As for your battery issue, I have had two software updates done on mine, one for the instrument panel causing a drain after the car is stopped and one for the HVAC system due to the ventilation fans running after the car was stopped / locked, might be worth checking those two out. My car doesn't have exposed key slots, as per Jez's post, the only manual option is to remove the passenger handle cover to expose a manual lock.
I guess I need to make a hole in cover, of course a battery that didn't go flat would be nice! Gerry

Do you have a tow-bar? You could connect a 12v feed up to the Accessory socket fairly easily that would give enough juice to use the central locking...

No, sadly not. Anyhow left it with the dealer, not back in UK until Thursday evening, that should be long enough for them to come up with a good excuse why they won't give me a new battery. Gerry

Sorry to hear your problems, doesn't sound good for a new car.

I certainly feel lucky that mine has been trouble free really, so far. Hopefully will continue to be too. Odd how these issues are on newer MY2011 examples, thought earlier ones would have been the troublesome ones.

Also don't quite see why they don't just swap out the battery for you, know that if there is more of a problem then need to sort that first otherwise it'll just screw the next battery too. But there's no cost to them as if duff battery then they simply send that back and reclaim as you would if you went and bought one yourself.

It's a known issue that the stock batteries are sub spec for the equipment onboard.
The necessary AGM battery is in low supply and LR are not pro-actively replacing these.
I had a status update today, they are going to fully charge and run tests, and if it ticks all the boxes on the replacement form they will replace.

So a day late I get the report that after charging, and leaving for a whole day there are no visible traceable issues.

No new battery.

So when I sarcastically suggest that my best plans would be to collect the car and wait for it to fail again, preferably when my wife and small children are out in it late at night, he concurs!

He also stated that my software is current (shutdown time 25 mins after locking), does anyone know latest software version? I would like to check before I accept this as the truth.

So WTF do I do here? I am convinced I am going to have a lifetime of hurt with this car, but officially "there is nothing wrong with either vehicle or battery" Gerry

Depending on my mood and how far you live from the dealer I would either just buy a new battery myself - huff for a while & get over it or wait until it is convenient leave everything on completely flatten the battery and call Landrover assist and keep repeating.

That's a bit dishonest...

p-trax...what dealer do you use? Recently had some issues with my local dealer in Hertfordshire - really arsey on the phone so they won't be getting any custom!!!

Collected the car today, apparently I am on the waiting list for a battery when they officially become available.
Decided against deliberately running battery down, not sure how long it will be until I go back to see my new pals at Lancaster in welwyn Gerry

I am sure this is the exception rather than the norm as the 2007+ cars are generally very reliable.

I am sure Lookers will do there best to sort any recurring problems but I very much doubt they had any prior knowledge of any faults on the car as these things can just happen without warning.

Get them fixed to your satisfaction and then enjoy the car as the 2007 SC is a really great example of a FFRR, I have sold two recently and they are real value for money IMHO Thumbs Up

And I'm wondering why nobody can manufacture decent colour-coded handle covers with holes for 2010+ RRs Evil or Very Mad
