Reading an article on the forthcoming FFRR 2012 model ........

Not only will the new Range Rover be lower and feature much-improved rear passenger room, but it is also expected to be nearly half a tonne lighter than the current car. Sources have told Autocar that a switch to all-alloy construction should shave around 450kg off the weight of today’s BMW-engineered, all-steel structure.

The car will get a 260bhp TDV6 engine and eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Engineers are hoping to reduce the CO2 emissions of the entry-level L405 to just under 200g/km. Around half of the weight saving comes from the bare bodyshell, with the rest coming from re-engineered subframes and lighter suspension systems and interior components. The overall length of the new Range Rover creeps up by 25cm, making it over five metres long. But sources say rear legroom could receive a much-needed boost, gaining as much as 125mm over today’s car. ............

I read that as thin cheap interior bits and reduced boot space for increased rear passenger legroom.

I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see Tata as being a positive force.

I have been told the 4.4 TDV8 will be in the new one and it is the V8 Petrol that may well be left out of the line up for emission controls MY11.5 Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Santorini / Ivory Fully Loaded Arrived March 1st

I doubt the TDV8 will be around much longer, when you can get similar power/performance and much better emmissions from a v6 - it is all about environmentals now.

TDV8 may make it into next Gen 2012/13 RR but from what I here spend on furhter development of unit basically only sells in the UK market. ROW tends to be petrol only and Gulf states and Amercias/Chinese the biggest consumers.

TDV8 can't go to Gulf states because it can't satisfy heat test/engine bay ventilation in the desert..... but you can fill your tank with petrol for less than a tenner in most of the gulf states, even now.

Remember, Jag and Ford build the current engines - Ford don't really have any other platform for the TDV8, but v6 diseasal is all the rage ...

BMW can do a 300bhp TT diseasal - so I'm sure Ford/Dagenham can ....

Ermm not sure about that one and the 3.0 giving same numbers as 4.4 TDV8 and have you seen the emission numbers on the 4.4 TDV8 "V" the SDV6.

For petrol you may well see the low pressure Turbo engines making it into more and more cars.

Thought the demand for Diesel in the USA had more than tripled in the last 12 months according to the press release.

3.0 and old 3.6 is ( was ) built in south Wales 4.4 TDV8 Germany and Wales.

Audi are showing a lot of interest in the new 4.4 TDV8 for its 2013 new Q7 or what ever they will call it.

The L322 might well be the last of the breed. Enjoy it while you can!

So the TDv6 will be a re-tuned version of the current 3.0ltr as that produces 245PS and 600 torques - shouldn't be too difficult with a BAS remap. That will save LR a fortune on the developement costs, allowing them to put it into other areas. I have also read that the air suspension is going as it is too heavy, to be replaced with Magnaride, but I don't see how they will give it the wheel articulation for offroad, so maybe 2012 L405 won't any more offroad ability than an Evoque...... which at least has more than a Freelander2 2012MY RREvoque Dynamic Lux Plus Auto SD4 Coupe in Fuji White with full ebony interior

This sounds quite interesting.
Although it's a V6 that's plenty of power/torque for a new breed of Range Rover that's nearly 500kg lighter.
Sounds good to me.

Maybe with seperating the brands Range Rover will become more luxury and less off-roader and Land Rover will keep the traditional off road ability.
Let's be honest, does a Range Rover really need that fantastic axle articulation and the other things that add to the weight?
95% of customers would probably say no as they never do more than mount a pavement.

The emissions of the current TDv6 are nothing to boast about though................ but with less weight and a more aerodynamic body that will help get them down a bit 2012MY RREvoque Dynamic Lux Plus Auto SD4 Coupe in Fuji White with full ebony interior

I don't want an aerodynamic body and I don't want downsized engines.
Also I think a Range Rover should retain off-road ability as that is what it is all about a luxury 4X4.
Even though you might not need it, it's good to know you can rely on this technology when the going gets tough!
You don't need a V12 sportscar either as most of us don't use all the power on the road but it's good to know you can.
