condensation in rear lights

i have been suffering condensation in my rear lights in the last few month's, some times they are streaming..
so i decided to take them out to see why this is happening, on first inspection i could not see any reason why or where the water has got in.

i only found one of the rubber vents folded over, may be got caught when fitting

it seems like the condensation escalates and goes from worse to worse, there seems to be an outer and inner clear plastic and the water is draw up from the bottom by capillary then forms as drop as it runs back down to the bottom of the light.

firstly i drained what water i could get out via the main vent

then came out the hair dryer on low and left running for 30 min moving around the light, the prob is its a sealed unit and you cant get into main part of the light.
after about an hour it has all gone but leave it to cool down as if you take it out side being hotter the out side it will condensate with what moisture is in the air..

left to cool down and all is well

i had this with one of mine and once i fitted it to the car it started all over again ...its as if the condensation can get in but cant escape ....so with mine i drilled a 2.5mm hole on the inside of the light from behind where your red reflector is making sure not to press to hard as i didnt want to go right through the lense and the problem has now gone away, and from the outside you cant even notice it unless you look very hard .... Thumbs Up

i took a slightly easier route in drilling a very small hole on the bottom right of the near side and bottom left on the off side on the outside with the light units still in place...the effect wasnt immediate but gradually the condensation has gone... ... - .- -.

I just drilled a hole in my OSR light too, exactly the same as Stan's. It had a good inch of water in the light so will be interested to see if this cures it.

I have resigned myself to buying a new light anyway if it doesn't but i am hopeful!

If you take the lights off you can drill 3mm holes in each of the bottom corners, on the bottom edge, where you can't see them. This clears the condensation as well. Wink Smile

As my pic shows I drilled the hole in the back of the light that way you can't see it and it's a lot better for when you are washing the car saves you getting more water in it with the hose Thumbs Up
