Deployable sidesteps not working

I have been having intermittent problems with my sidesteps that don't always work. Presently the passenger side is working 90% of the time but the drivers side typically comes out about 2 inches and goes back in again. All looks clean and tidy under the car and I have tried to squirt some WD-40 in to the hinge assembly but it hasn't made a difference.

Any ideas please?

The motors JLR use have built in anti trap/torque protection... Basically if the step gets caught on something, it wont keep pushing on until something brakes. This means, if your hinges get a little gummed up, the motors think there is an obstacle! Thumbs Up

I was having intermittent problems with mine and ended up having to change the control unit. it wasn't covered by the extended warranty as it's considered an accessory.

I am having this issue too and wondered what the best way to lubricate/de 'gunk' the hinges is?

Also, is how do you manually deploy the sidesteps (assuming they are working!!)? Is it the button underneath the interior tail gate release above the driver's right knee?

On the MY17 the steps are the last icon on the main menu centre screen. Tap that and tick the second box down and the steps deploy and stay out. Mike - MPx

Thanks Mike but mine's a 15my and don't remember seeing any options on the screens for sidesteps (think my screen etc is the older type)

Try pressing and holding the reset button for 5 to 10 seconds. It’s down in front of your right knee in the drivers side. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

Whilst not exactly comprehensive - this is what the manual says -

May be of some help (or not) - but there doesn't seem top be a manual deployment option other than 'Roof Access'

All that I can add it that on my vehicle, as I said, in front of your right knee, there are two long buttons. One opens the boot lid, the other resets the side step, works for me. I find that if it thinks that I have been off roading, which translates to a few pot holes, it just shuts duwn. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

Its a separate supplement - mines stored with the handbook.

Steps are a dealer fit accessory, so not covered in the main handbook Thumbs Up
