Can't find the Meguairs 3 Stage Paint kit on the Meguairs site. Can someone indicate the three products required? .

OK just ran a test on bringing up a great looking finish (not on an FFRR just yet)

Last summer, I rattle can sprayed up one of the doors on my MG Midget (primer, nightfire red metallic (2 coats), lacquer (3 coats)). The finish wasn't all that glossy (hard to apply deeply enough lacquer without it running).

With nothing to lose, I took to the panel with some 1200 grit wet and dry (and water) and lightly sanded it down to a dull finish. Wipe off then attacked with the polisher and Meguiars Stage 1 Paint Cleaner. After going over once I wiped down then went over it again with the Stage 1.

Wow - talk about mirror finish!

Got even better after applying Stage 2 (Polish) and Stage 3 (Wax).

Nice to be able to try this out on something less important before tackling the FFRR with it, but its a great confidence giver. I have rust bubbles on my rear left wing that need sorting out. But could be used all over. Probably saves a lot of elbow grease, no need to clay etc. Depends on the paintwork you are starting with! If 1200 grit sounds too aggressive try 1500. Need a goodly amount of clear coat on your paint too Smile .

I've used 2000 grade emery paper on car paint work before polishing.
Certainly get a mirror finish. Thumbs Up
Not used it on the FFRR but there's time

The first thing a proper guy does is remove the handle as they need finger tip control (In fact this is the acid test of a pro when we try them out if they leave the handle on they are bluffing).

This needs to be taken with a pinch of salt....true in so far as machining whilst holding the handle doesnt give you the same finite control as holding the machine as if it wasnt fitted, but the D handle if left in place does allow you to put down your machine without it rolling over and picking up grit onto the pad Wink I dont have one fitted on my rotary as it doesnt tend to roll over, but have left it on on my DA for that exact purpose. I dont use it when machining though Wink

Australia 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Atacama Sand

Having less and less time means the weekly Saturday routine for keeping our two cars clean is getting harder to fit in. I usually pressure clean, shampoo and towel dry. I also clay bar and wax every 6 mths. As the cars live outside I often have to give them a wipe over to deal with bird and bat droppings before they eat into the paint.

I've started to use a quick detailer spray which seems pretty good. It's not as good a result as the full routine but it's ok and a lot quicker. I will continue the full routine just not nearly as often. Buying detailing spray by the bottle is expensive. So I'm thinking about buying a concentrate which is about 1/10 of the price.

Has anyone had long term experience with using quick detail sprays generally and in particular with Chemical Guys detailer sprays? ______________________________

A good tip for those thinking of using an electric( or air polisher.) To protect the edges /swage lines on panels,we use 3M fine line tape. Comes in 2 widths 3mm and 6mm .Carefully stick it ( raised ) areas before polishing. You can polish over it ,as you do the panel. Comes off easily.Available on e bay about £5 a roll/ 36 yds long.. Thumbs Up
