**ANOTHER UPDATE**

So..........

I took the car to a garage I have used often. Good prices and knowledgable guy although English can be a slight barrier he pretty much gets my drift. I would have taken it to him to start with but he does not do MOTs and that was the main reason taking to a garage. Anyway, with the Β£1200 I had spent on MOT, Remap, Wishbones, Spark plugs yada yada I took it to him as the smell of fumes etc was still present although very little.

He basically took sparks out (4 days old brand new by the way) and they were black as if they had done 200,000 miles actually I don't think 200,000 miles would have made them look that bad. 4 were black and 4 were clean. The misfired ones clearly have a bigger issue.

He did a vacuum/pressure test and that came back all fine. he had the errors of the misfire on his computer so knew something might not be good. said he swapped the blocks or banks round (not sure what he meant on this part, me dumb or just a communication thing, I just nodded). checked for sparks etc revved it to the moon and back and the fumes were just horrendous he even put his CO2 reader in and the alarm was going crazy like a 3 legged cat!!!

He said it must be the Injectors or 90% its the injectors. Β£100+ each for 8 wasn't looking too promising on my part. Anyway, he put it back together left it 2 hours I went to pick the car up and no fumes nothing from exhaust nothing in the cabin not a wisp from the exhaust. I took it for a 15-mile blast bit of petrol and luckily nothing no judders, no smells in the cabin nothing from the exhaust so hopefully, touch wood it was something to do with swapping bits round and maybe fitting the sparks correctly to avoid any pressure losses. No errors on the dash nothing so please before I pull out my last remaining hair...let it be fixed!!!!!

Fingers crossed 🀞 Sounds like Land Rover uses Microsoft Windows as the operating system in a FFRR.

The guy who sold me the car just called 9:45 pm saying it is definitely the Cats. Said Land Rover when he took it there said it was the cats and needs a new exhaust system. I will see how it goes and try and source one secondhand. This I feel will get interesting!!!

I have no idea who to trust. 2 separate mechanics or the guy who sold the lemon to me.

Cheers for all the input and support. I will win the war Smile

so are you saying that he replaced the injectors or didn't replace them?

if he didn't replace, and all he did was swap some wires around and it then worked ok, it seems likely that the problem will return.

totally agree. The problem would still be there I feel unless it was loose bolts, unseated or incorrectly installed etc but that is just wishful thinking and not likely.

He did not do the injectors yesterday but when it rolled out of the garage it had no smoking or fumes issues whatsoever. He did blast the exhaust really aggressively and maybe (again wishful thinking) it unblocked something in the cats... again doubt it. I then had a call from the previous owner last night who said it is definitely the cats 100% so I have it booked in for an exhaust and cat check at another garage for free so nothing to lose.

I have seen this on fleabay https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/371393991725?chn=...p;mkcid=28 Maybe a custom exhaust won't be so expensive as I thought.

Some Pics

Some pics of the sparks which were 4 days old and the errors on my ODB and the CO2 emissions machine I put in the car. It is now reading zero all the time which is what we want. Also a list of what work was done on the car by the previous owner however there are no side steps and not sure who poppy is haha

Yes custom exhausts don’t have to be that expensive. Although not all systems are equal as with everything. And when adding valves, especially when operated electronically via a button the price can double quickly.

Cats can easily be the same price again. It could be worth having a chat with a local shop about that.

Mine was done at Full Throttle Performance for my 5.0SC. But also finished in satin black and electronic valves. As Crypto had some nice gains I treated myself for the last of the V8 scenario 🀣

**UPDATE TIME....**

So having owned the lemon for 6-8 weeks snd fixing a lit of the niggles. I still had engine management lights, reduced performance messages, lack of power, missfires cylinder 1,3,5,7 and o2 sensor errors.

Sparks changed fuel pump changed, injectors changed. Still lumpy as foooook. Last option had the exhaust booked in for replacement of the system. While I wasnt going OEM (due to cost) I have a local guy who is really good as is the price. Does it all by hand so might be some slight imperfections but Im never under the car so not an issue.

Safe to say old exhaust was spent and borh cats empty. Car now has no errors no missfires and I can actually put my foot down wirhout fear of going in to restricted performance.

Next I need to work out if my supercharger is 1 working and 2 what power it is giving me. Any tips be great 😊

MY CAR LIVES!!!!

So am I. Just under Β£2k spent on it over the last 6 weeks of ownership. Was getting to the point it wasn't going to be cost effective but it is fixed. Just needs a good run to appreciate it and charge the battery so it starts OK. Headache has gone though. πŸ˜„ Current Cars
