i have just seen that on your chart it must of been a 3.6 v8 he got it wrong new vehicle purchase

I may well be wrong, but I thought they made a few V6 (possibly 2.8 l) when they got to the end of BMW 3.0 l. before the 3.6 v8 became available ??

I am trying to find more info, but something tells me that they used an engine intended for the Discovery in the L322 when supplies from BMW dried up , but the 3.6 V8 wasn’t yet available ??

Never heard that, and it‘s very unlikely. Fit a new engine for a short period.

Well, I haven't heard of the L322 being fitted with a V6, but JLR have just discontinued the 4 cylinder engines on the defender after a matter of months. They fitted the 2.2 ford diesel to the evoque for a matter of months. It seems a habit of theirs to create these orphan fleets when the engine is behind schedule.

I have tried to find any old references to the supply problem they had as the BMW supply ended, but failed.
I think it was probably just press speculation of JLR contingency planning to keep production of the L322 going by using the v6 from the Sport until the V8 became available.
They have plenty of history doing this short term fix. eg the 200 tdi in the Classic when the VM contract ended, only to be replaced months later by the 300 tdi
