Snowfoam - am I doing something wrong?

I believed that Snowfoam was a revolutionary way of cleaning your pride and joy but I don't seem to be getting any benefit from it!

I follow the recommendations , 2" of concentrate and rest of warm water , coat the car and leave for 10 minutes then jet wash off.

Problem is that it doesn't seem to even get the old dirty rain water droplet marks off?

All it seems to me is just an additional procedure to be done for nothing during cleaning ?

It looks good, and is fun to apply. If only it smelt good then it would be a sensory extravaganza.

It's no good for dirt that is "stuck on" although it will loosen it. It will remove dust and dirt that has settled in the car, but I've found that's about it.

You can stick a little car shampoo in the bottle too if you like and mess with the mix until you have convinced yourself it's working! Thumbs Up

So Dan it's as I thought - just a gimmick that's fun to apply but that's it! CURRENT : FFRR 2012 4.4 TDV8

No, it's absolutely not a gimmick. 10 minutes may be a bit long to be fair but what it's doing is loosening all the small dirt particles, the ones which will produce the swirls if ground into the paintwork with a sponge. The pressure washer should then remove these before you touch the surface with a wash mitt.

If you have hard water spotting from previous washing then you need to dry the car more thoroughly. No amount of snowfoam will remove chalk & limescale.

Foam should not be allowed to dry so take that as your guide for rinse time. If you let it dry it makes matters worse by acting like a soapy glue which holds on to the dirt.

Dom.

I wouldnt say it's a gimmick, for fear of being hunted down and killed in my sleep. Snow foam lovers get quite upset when you say things like that!

Personally IMHO I think it's a gimmick.

You can't beat a proper 3 bucket lambswool mitt wash by hand.

2 buckets of water and car shampoo and then 1 bucket with warm water to rinse the mitt between every panel. Minimises the risk of having grit on mitt and then causing swirl/scratch marks. FFRR TD6 HSE

Snow foam works if you use it frequently (once a week) on cars which have a small amount of dirt.

Best approach is to wash the car with a sponge or brush at the start of a season with your favoured shampoo and apply a good quality wax.

Then each week jet wash your car to remove dust and dirt. Apply the snow foam, leave for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse off and then apply a rinse aid such as Autoglym AUTO GLOSS RINSE. Leave for 5 minutes then rinse off.

Remove droplets with a soft squeegee or a blower, then use a micro-fibre mitt or cloth to wipe off.

The secret is to do the above before substantial amounts of dirt build up. If that happens then you will need to use a shampoo and brush or sponge to remove the grime. 2018 Range Rover Autobiography

I agree completely. May I ask the OP which brand of snow foam you are using????

I have been detailing cars for many years and get great results from both the valet pro and Meguiars snow foam. Many products produce foam which has little or no effect on paint contaminants.

Are you applying through a pressure washer or hose attachment such as the Gilmour foam master II?

its most certainly not a gimmick - if used correctly

you should not 'pre wash' the car - if wet the foam does not have enough time to 'dwell' as it runs off

i use Raquel's snow foam (pm if you want details) and add about 1/2" megs gold shampoo

i use my RR offroad and it removes mud/crap with no problem
