Do I just hit it with a bigger hammer?

Trying to get the tow bar off, all looks very simple std LR stuff, box section arm plugging into square socket. Removed the pin and started trying to shift it with a lump hammer - didn't budge.
Should I
a. Get a bigger hammer.
b. Try and pull something heavy with pin removed.
c. look again and see that I need to remove something else.

Tried to search but tow bar is tedious in the number of results it returns. Geoff

I'd go with D.
Rope tied to something solid. Slightly tension it by pulling forward. Then clout it once it's under tension.

If you have to do option B then use a chain. Ropes can and will snap under shock load and I'd bet good money when it does the recoil will leave its mark on your tailgate. Call it Sod's Law if you like. Laughing

Mine is also corroded in, I've used penetrating oil, heat, chain round a tree and whilst the tension was on I placed a 20 ton bottle jack between the ball plate and the bar......and it's still seized solid.

The only way to remove it will be to remove the complete tow bar to gain access to the rear of the square, then apply heat and using an air hammer rattle it out.

Is it the swan neck or fixed plate?

Why do you want to remove it?

It's fixed plate, I would like to remove it because I should be able to remove it and I'll need to if I get my hands on the official LR bike rack Smile

When I've got it off I'll grease everthing up so it will slip in and out easily in the future - oh err......... Whistle

I'll give it a "proper go" this weekend! Geoff

Just make sure you don't give your rear bumper a "facelift" with the extra gusto!
