Am I safe to assume that the plastic trims, doors, dash etc are completely through coloured - not painted and I can give them some very aggressive cleaning.
The reason is the doors in particular are sticky in places, like the've got some sort of coating on, this in itself wouldn't be a problem but it has a slight colour cast - greenish!

So can I attack it without fear with a kitchen style cleaner, maybe even one that is bleach based

Or has anyone of you esteemed forum contributors got any other suggestions.

door linings are coloured through, seat bases and trim in the boot and on some of the pillars is coated, i'd be very careful with household cleaners - I've fiucked up in the past using them on cars

I just used a Magic Sponge to clean the plastic on my doors and dashboard and the results are amazing, no hard scrubbing required and every thing came up like new . 2008 MY Supercharged

It is actually a leather cleaner but that makes it safe for use on many other surfaces too. Agitate lightly with a soft brush if the surface you are cleaning has a grain, and of course test a small area first but so far I've never found it react with anything.

Geoff- let rip with some bathroom cleaner. I did mine with some grim and lime remover over 12 months ago and there fine! Came up a treat but need cleaning again now. Just make sure you use loads of water to clean it off as long term might cause some issues.

On plastics you'd be amazed what a normal nail brush and warm water with fair liquid can do. Discovery 4 HSE

Gave it a good scrub - passenger door came up a treat - like new. Drivers door is a whole different kettle of fish, it's been painted! I think maybe that the leather armrest/doorhandle was worn so that got a recolour, fine, but they have kept going and sprayed some of the door panel to maybe blend it in there is even overspray if you look closely. What where the cretins thinking, so next job is to get the paint off and get it back to original- am I OK to wipe with thinners or will the plastic "melt" - advice?

i'd avoid cellulose thinners, it dissolves certain plastics - to my cost - white spirits is ok on plastic, but not sure if it will remove dry paint.

If it's on the plastics - and it's coloured right through, try duraglit (brasso). Land Rover Addict

+1 for autoglym leather cleaner for interior plastics, but baby wipes clean most day to day car grime up of the interior really well

wipes are also excellent on laptops/ mobiles etc etc...anything that you can not get 'wet' when cleaning

Saw and bought a new complete door trim on fleabay for £100 - seemed like the shortest distance between two points - but thanks for all the advice  Geoff

I'll echo an earlier sentiment.....

For cleaning (not stain removal) the best chemical is water! Add detergent (Fairy Liquid) to help the water remove dirt and soil. Oh, and don't be fooled by "more bubbles is better" - a proper solution of detergent in water has hardly any bubbles - too high a concentration and you just end up smearing and leaving detergent on the surface you are cleaning.

Use a damp cloth for most cleaning, for heavy soil always soak first.

Also suggest use microfibre cloths as they help to get into the tiny gaps we can't see.

Baby wipes are also good - especially the hypo allergenic ones (don't want your FFRR getting eczema now do we?)

Remember to rinse with clean warm water afterwards.

Glass is a different matter. Use as above to clean, then use proprietary window cleaner to get a clear view.

If you must use a chemical in a spray gun for any cleaning, spray the cloth not the surface before applying and "cleaning"

This advice doesn't just apply to cars, same goes for anything. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Too good to be true, couldn't tell from the picture when it arrived the trim was stunning but finished entirely in leather so it didn't match the others - sent it back  Geoff
