TD6 VS TDV8

Hi everyone, nice to see you all again Cool

I was looking on the autotrader website as some TDV8's, and the "Average MPG" seemed as though the TDV8 did more MPG, even though it is a 3.6.. Is this due to the engine being new (changed in 56/07?) or something else, or are the numbers given inaccurate? (Ive usually found they are somewhat in accurate)

Which would do more MPG:
Around town?
'On a long run'?

Regards Very Happy

I think the TDV8 has the potential for better mpg due to more powerful engine and more gears. However with more power comes the temptation to floor it Smile
So basically both are similar but the TDV8 is a far superior engine.
The newer 4.4 TDV8 is even better mpg due to 8 speed box Thumbs Up FFRR TD6 HSE

Not sure were those figures come from, having just swapped from a TDV8 sport to a TDV6 D3 which is loads better on fuel consumption.

He's not talking about the tdv6 though.

I've driven the td6 and tdv8 over exactly the same journey and can confirm that the 4.4 tdv8 got a significantly higher mpg.

I found mine the same overall but I don't drive like Miss Daisy and both of mine were chipped.

The TDV8 cruises at MUCH lower revs so the potential for lower mpg is there, plus it has a 6sp auto rather than the TD6's 5 speed.

I use the extra power and overall I am getting at the lowest, 24mpg, at best 26mpg.

I don't know why I care, I don't pay for any of my fuel. Whistle Discovery 4 HSE

I have a 2006 td6, I am getting 28.9 on computer on a run, which isn't great, but the car is. I love it.
Cool

So how does the TDV8 3.6 litre vary compared to the TD6 3 litre?
I wouldn't want to be getting the 4.4 due the cost of the upgrade.. Rolling Eyes

My Td6 was on average 2mpg better than my TDV8.
I am a very economical driver and I could get 30mpg with the 6 pot, but only 28mpg in the 8 pot.
That's 80% of my driving at about 65mph.

When I bought it the salesman told me the offical figures are the same, but you usually get a bit less as it has more power.

tdv8 has more power and is more efficient as it has newer injector and turbo technology. however it is more complicated and will cost more to repair. the tdv8 has timing belts which are a large service cost, the td6 has a chain which should last the life of the car. The tdv8 is the better engine it is smoother, quieter, faster and more economical and gives the v8 sound range rovers should have.
