4 new shocks required - any advice

Hi All,

I need four new shocks for my 2012 4.4tdv8 Westminster.
Any advice on which brand to go for and part numbers etc?

Also how easy/ difficult are they to fit?

Thanks, Mark

It failed three on the DOE (MOT equiv) so I just said I'd do the four. He said three are leaking....

It is a common issue especially with the rear ones leaking.
If they still work ok I would wipe them down and take it to another MOT tester.

Misting is normal for the CVD shocks, but a proper leak obviously isn’t.

I know there tends to be a cheaper brand version, think it starts with A, and Bilstein ones…. Or LR ones, which I think might be Bilstein anyway.

Island 4x4 had an offer on rears recently.

Pretty sure these will be the cheapest, for Bilstein rears…

Wow thanks for all the replies.

Can I get the front's without the bags or do I have to replace the two together?

Thanks

I'd clean the rears and retest as there is a LR workshop advisory note that says they leak but with no detrimental effect on performance. Fronts need replacing and I'd do it in pairs if I was you. AFAIK you can change the air bags on their own but not the shocks. How many miles? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

When I changed the fronts on my 2007 car I decided to buy the ones with air bags on them.

The rubber on the airbags will now be 10 years old on the newest of L322’s so doing the bags and struts together will stop any problems with them not sealing properly and will save you having to strip it twice when the airbags give up in the future. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

So the funny thing is the tester I went to has a reputation for not liking Land Rovers....
When I got home I checked the S/H and the front right bad & shock was changed in Nov before I bought it and he put that as one that was very bad.

I'm going to get these checked out elsewhere before jumping ahead.

Thanks for the advice / help but I did get a shock yesterday as it drives very well and I never saw them weeping.

I'll update this post after next Wed when I get it checked out. Thanks again

In the UK a leaking shock is an MOT fail even if it's working properly. My rears are leaking but the rear end is not under damped and bouncing around so they are working fine. Was the replaced shock a LR part or a 3rd party make? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
