IID Tool query 8 speed reporting as 6 speed transmission

Afternoon all, slight confusion when I completed a 6-month oil change today on my 2012 4.4 TDV8, afterwards I had a play with my iid tool, does any have any idea why it tells me i have a 6-speed auto box? this is the scan i did of the ECU. It is defo 8 speed just seems odd?

Cheers

It's same with mine. Worth getting the gearbox software updated at an indy or dealer with JLR workshop software as AFAIK it can't be done via the GAP IID tool 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

How did that go? any issues? I have read problems can occur due to the gearbox wear allowances being forgotten. Have you noticed anything strange and did the iid tool report back you now have an 8 speed? Also own a 1976 Land Rover 101 3.5 V8.

Mine's update was done a few years ago but nothing untoward occurred afterwards.
Yes, it still reports as 6-speed.

Software update retains the wear data and is not the same as a reset. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I have just purchased the software update for my transmission ecu, Patrick at GAP has explained that Land Rover say it is mandatory to delete the adaptions prior to the update being installed. Obviously GAP are the experts on this but I would rather not delete the adaptions if others have updated successfully without deleting them. Has anyone done this update without deleting the adaptions? Also own a 1976 Land Rover 101 3.5 V8.

I'd say JLR are the experts - it's their software. If it's mandatory to reset the adaptions, then there will be a good reason for it. Are you updating to resolve an issue or just to 'keep up with the Joneses'?

It occasionally has the issue where it jolts momentarily almost as if it cant decide whether to change up or down a gear, I am wondering whether its worth the risk of potentially causing more problems with the update. Also own a 1976 Land Rover 101 3.5 V8.

If the update specifically addresses the concern, then I'd say yes, otherwise, you could well be opening a tin of surströmming...

AFAIK it’s ZF base software. Indy did mine and didn’t reset the gearbox. They did it via the JLR workshop diagnostics so likley it would have told them to do it if it was needed. Software changes some gearbox behaviour and shift points but if you have hard shifts and bumps I’d first look at servicing it and possibly changing the mechatronic seals. Also try a throttle reset for some harsh shifting issues - ignition on, accelerator pedal to floor for 30 seconds, ignition off. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thanks for the comments, the shifts are 99% of the time really smooth with no issues, it very occasionally has what I can only describe as a hiccup, normally if it happens it is as I am approaching an island at speed if I remove pressure on the accelerator and then accelerate again as you do once you can see its clear without stopping it will clunk for milliseconds and sort itself out.
Almost like it was thinking of changing down then decides to stay in the current gear, its like no power momentarily. Also own a 1976 Land Rover 101 3.5 V8.
