I’ve just fitted a set of L663 20” take offs directly onto the L405 and in short, seems to fit with no issues. The defender tyres are 255/60/20 so a size up from the 275/40/22 previously fitted. Glancing at the suspension before hand I thought it would be close in terms of height, but the wider offset of the defender rim pushes the tyres further away so I’d say there was more clearance than before. plus the slightly wider track reduces the feeling that the smaller wheels are tucked in under the arches I think.

So if anyone is wondering, there you go…

Ride is definitely smoother and quieter with less crashing over the bumps and potholes. I’ve not get so far that I’m noticing much of difference in cornering yet. Acceleration wise maybe a little bit less, but it’s really not a car to be pushed I don’t think. Speedo wise, I’ve not compared against the gps, but I am aware of the difference posed.

My old tyres were done, they were 22” winters and the treads were getting shredded, leaving them markedly uneven rotationally I was beginning to feel a shimmy through the steering when entering gentle bends so swapped front to rear, after which I could feel the wobble through the seat at speed … so anything was going to be better. Also noticed that cause all tyres are even sized the transmission whine had markedly reduced as well. So rotating tyres to keep tread depths even is clearly beneficial on the L405 it seems.

Ideally I wanted the other style of 5 spoke alloys, but the guy didn’t have a set at the time. Considering a replacement winter tyre was in the £300+ per corner, a set of 4 new alloys and Pirelli tyres at £650 all in was a good deal which I’m prepared to put up with the looks for. Longer term, I think I’ll run these as the winter set of wheels and replace the tyres on the 22 as summer tyres. V8 or else ...

Do the defender tpms work on your L405 ?

Nope . That’s somethings that’s popped up. I dont think mine are tpms valved, so I’m getting the error now.

I plan on disabling the tpms via iidtool. V8 or else ...

I’ve got same problem with tpms- gap tool doesn’t switch it off so I think new sensors is only solition

Aye … looks like it, just tried it out and tpms isn’t an option to disable on the tool…. Sigh. Why does it have to be so bloody hard to do the simplest of things. V8 or else ...

i'm sure i've seen the tpms disable in the 'untested' menu.... ... - .- -.

is that via the beta testing program of the iidtool, which I think you need to ask GAP to be added into ? I'll need to update my tool as I've not done it in a while.

My tool was upto date. I email GAP asking about it, and they have unlocked the full CCF list for me. Its a by-request feature I think to stop random messing up of the CCF files, as there are a ton more options in the full list now.

Once unlocked, all I had to do was plug the tool into the USB, and connect to it via the app, and it auto updated in a matter of seconds. Plugged into the car, and i've now disabled the TPMS setting.

I'll take it for a drive later to confirm.

Didn’t work. Need to look at more ccf settings I think. I only quickly browsed through. V8 or else ...

I'd like to see them with a good chunky AT tyre and and see what that looks like. At the moment the big sidewall with a non-AT tyre isn't doing it for me  FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

I hear ya there, a bit balloon like. But given the price I’ll just run them down and replace with something chunky shouldered in time.

That being said, the ride is soooo much smoother and quieter though. V8 or else ...

Looked over the CCF again, there are multiple tire monitoring related settings … got the right one after reading the GAP website docs.

No tpms errors on the last journey of 20miles, so seems all good now. V8 or else ...
