Can Bus injection attack hack theft

Only came across this recently whereby vehicle security can be bypassed by tapping into the can bus. Can't find anything on the forum about it. The most widely documented case is via Toyota Rav4 headlights wiring. I had been thinking of getting an Autowatch Ghost or Scorpion X Series immobiliser but can't see the point if they can't prevent this sort of attack. Unfortunately I can't find any information either way. Chris

Apparently the can bus on the L405 is being accessed by cutting a small hole in the rear tail gate.
The hole is then being covered up with a GB sticker or some thing similar to avert suspicion whilst the vehicle is driven away.
You can have a protective sleeve fitted over the can bus at this point to prevent it being accessed.
I am having this done next week so can supply more detail then if you like.

The RAV in question didn't have Ghost fitted, so it cant be presumed either way.
below is a good read on how it was done, written by a Can Bus guru, worth reading to the end.

Maybe, maybe not. I looked into the Ghost system when I joined this sub after buying a used L405 and after finding out more about its origins, I decided against it.

As you may or may not know, Ghost and Autowatch are UK-created names for a Russian product called IGLA. While the French distributor refused to go into the reasons for the UK name change, my personal theory is that many people would think twice about buying an immobilizer system that's designed and manufactured by Russian hackers. In Russia.

Which begs the question: why doesn't Autowatch disclose the origins of their star product?

Aside from the global anti-Russian sentiment going around, your guess is as good as mine, but ultimately, my point is this: it might be that Ghost stickers will attract the wrong type of thief, if you catch my drift.

Anyhoo, here's IGLA's website, based in Russia, if you're interested: https://iglaglobal.com/Products

IGLA's product that's sold by Autowatch under the Ghost II moniker is actually the IGLA 231.

Now, does anybody happen to know an alternative, technically comparable product that's not made in Russia?

They then just use bolt cutters to cut a section out of the wheel, all done in about 5seconds... Rolling Eyes Pete

Problem with the CAN Bus thefts is that there’s no proposition of an “official” solution, and the number of L405s and L494s supposedly being stolen is borne out by the insane rises in insurance cost.

Even if you have additional security, you’re still likely to end up with a damaged car.

I have Smartrack 5 +imob fitted to another car, immobiliser and tracker in 1. A fob has to be present for the car to start plus the added bonus of a tracker. About £500 fitted and £17 per month for the tracker. Insurance is less than £300 per annum.

Right I see now that searching for the one word canbus gives a lot more hits on the forum.

TGE?

As per my first post it seems to me the only immobilisers that may have a chance against this sort of attack are the Autowatch Ghost or Scorpion X Series. Chris
