Coolant Change / flush

Been through every topic on the board, I have been losing some coolant over the past few months, but feel I should flush it and change / cleaner header etc and generally give it a bit of an inspection. Cant find anything relating to a 'How To' on this, I know its not the most technically demanding job but if anyone has anything I may find useful, it would be appreciated

I have also read about these testing kits you can buy to check the condition of the coolant (i.e. its not been mixing with anything nasty from the cylinder head) and wondering where I may be able to get one (piece of mind), anyone??

Out of interest, would no a/c (compressor I think) affect coolant level?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Hi Phil
The best thing you could get is a copy of Rave. You can download it from matts website. Www.myrangerover.com
The coolant change is easy to do but make sure your heater is set to full heat before you start. You can do a full change where you remove the plug from the block and change all 14L of it of just remove the botton hose of the rad and let it drain. What engine have you got? I'm guessing a 4.4?

cheers for the tips

....would never of known that without asking Wink

Yeh, its a TD6, probably being a little over cautious but wouldnt mind just draining and checking it out anyway, 14L thats a decent amount of coolant. Given that I've probably only put a litre in during the past 6 months, I have to assume its only a small leak, may well be the slow leak from the rad mentioned by prelove

Have a copy of rave, will have a read over a glass or two of vino tonight

Thanks again Thumbs Up

Most/all my knowledge is on the petrol so yours might not be 14L. The petrols are prone to rad leaks in the lower left and often go UN-noticed as the fan disperses the fluid before a puddle forms under the car. 1L over 6 months isn't a lot but worth finding where its going. I have a water leak and am putting in about 1L every 2 weeks. If it wasn't landing on the floor I would be worried.

thanks for your help and advice

Can anyone clarify if in-operational a/c can have any affect on the coolant level?
