The best COA is to take the car for a drive on a dual carriageway or motorway where you can get a nice steady run for 20 mins or so. Also, make sure you have well over ¼ tank of fuel. Doesn’t need to be full or anywhere near, just clearly over ¼. This should trigger a regeneration and clear your DPF.

If it doesn’t, it will go Red pretty quickly which means you have a problem that will require professional help. The car will go into restricted performance mode and you shouldn’t drive it far other than to seek safety. If this happens, get recovery and don’t drive far.

Questions that would help us help you:
1. What’s your driving been recently and be honest. Lots of urban lower speed or longer drives. If the latter, you have a problem and DPF full is just a symptom not the cause.
2. Have you a fault code reader or a friend with one? Letting us know the faults will help us help you.
3. Did you buy privately or from a dealer? Depending upon what’s wrong, if anything at all, will determine how to proceed.

I’ve been there with DPF issues as have many others so very happy to help! 👍 Andy

I do lots of short journeys mainly, I don’t have any faults on dad but I also did a error code read and got fault code p040d exhaust gas recirc temp circuit high - so is my real fault the probe sensor in manifold poss?

Soot reading of 23.04 before or after regen? If after, that’s basically full. If before, what was it after regen? Should’ve got down to 6 or less if successful. Andy

As ever, check for air intakes leaks on the 4 hoses into plenum and the big intercooler to throttle body hose. Lots of threads on both on here Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

If it were me:
1) I'd have the exhaust temp sensor replaced to get rid of the P040D error code. I'd have it done professionally as it's a swine of a job. Long post on here somewhere. That way you can eliminate it as a potential factor.
2) I'd look up that code in the WM (see Wiki). It seems it's trying to regen too many times.
3) I'd take it to Henshall Engineering in Cheshire as he fixed a family member's suffering exactly that same code. James re-set the lot and it's been fine ever since. He'll also check for intake leaks etc. He also checked the DPF guts to make sure it was "clear".
4) Nuclear option = gut the DPF and blank EGR (electronically). Talk to www.rangeroverworld.co.uk

Some folks have no issues with that code. Some do. I had it but do lots of long journeys. Maybe that helped. I had the sensor renewed 4 years ago. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I cannot recommend to you more strongly to stop doing dynamic regens if you are not 100% sure of the status of the DPF and why you are having this problem. If you don’t know what you are doing, you need to speak to a DPF specialist: Google DPF Doctor who are a franchise and have agents all over the country. They can measure the pressure difference across the filter and apply chemicals to dissolve the blockage if there is one, before then attempting a regen which will clear the thing to a nearly new state.

The problem is that, if your DPF is blocked, by forcing a regen the heat builds pressure which in turn increases the temperature. If this happens, the temperature can easily exceed the safe limits and you will literally melt the filter, rendering it completely unusable and have no other option but to buy a new one which will cost you £2500 just for the part. Trust me when I offer this advice as this happened to me and yes, I had to buy a new DPF as a result.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck with it. Just be very very wary that forcing regens is exceptionally risky and should only ever be done once you have established what the problem is and treated that problem first. 👍 Andy
