Front end banging

My L322 has recently started to develop a banging on the front end but it's only when going over small bumps or short quick braking at low speeds.
It's had all new ball joints, air bags, pads and disks so don't think these are the culprits, and I've had it on shaker plates but the mechanic can't see any movement anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated

Is it more of a bang or a rattle? I had where it was more of a rattle such as sounding like the shocker top nut was loose. That turned out to be anti roll bar drop mounts.

I had a knock also and was one of the lower ball joints.

My MOT chap said it can sometimes be difficult to pinpoint with a pry bar as the car weighs so much and you can’t always recreate the same movement.

Hi Mate, it's definitely a banging rather than a rattle

I had similar. First time it was the drop links, second time, it turned out to be the front, rear control arms (not to be confused with the front, front control arms!). This was after the upper control arms had already been replaced and this didn't solve the problem. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

No sign of any oil dropping off the bottom of the damper?

It's had new drop links, new upper and lower control arms and new ball joints not sure what to look at next. Car drives fine just has the knocking every now and then.

Have you checked / replaced the drop links at the rear? Surprising how knocks can appear at the opposite end of a car to what you think.

What make were the drop links/ball joints etc.?
It's amazing how quickly some of the cheap Ebay type stuff can wear out

I recently had my front suspension arms done and I now get tyre squeal at even slow speeds when going round corners, which I hadn't noticed before. I suspect this means the torques on the ball joints need checking? 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Did you get the alignment done after as wrong toe will cause scrubbing /squealing. Ball joint tightness won't have any influence on tyre/road contact. My ball joints are being replaced under warranty as they have failed after a few months and are making a creaking / cracking sound when the steering is turned but there is no knock or banging. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

The track rod end arm wasn't replaced, just the front upper and lower arms, which I think means tracking shouldn't have been affected? 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

They'll be different lengths, marginally, to what was on there. Additionally, rubber bushes change shape over time and when it was last tracked it would have been done with the bushes in their deformed state. The same with the hole in the pin relative to where the bolts sit. You'd be amazed at how much geometry adjustment can be made just by prying arms about and not even touching the track rods. On the Impreza's I've been able to gain half a degree of caster in the past just by pushing the rearmost front bush forwards. If the tyre is wearing unevenly then the tracking needs checked. Equally, if you've played about with parts in the suspension then you should get the tracking checked at the very least. If I've played with components and intend to do more then I'll usually just use the string method, but if that's me for a while then I'll stump up the £80 at a great local place who are even more anal and OCD about stuff than me which means a great job. I also like them because I can tell them what settings I want, which helps ensure the car does what I want it to do. Some places are useless and refuse to do anything other than book geo.

Also, and a bit of an aside, I absolutely do not subscribe to the idea of checking and adjusting tracking every tyre change, rather by mileage (then again I am generally sub 10k miles on a tyre set). If the old tyres wore evenly then that says it's fine. If the steering feels weird then get it checked. If you're experiencing uneven wear then get it checked. That said, sometimes driving style comes into uneven wear - BMW's will generally wear inner rear edge and outer front edge because people have no idea how to drive, plow into a corner too fast and off throttle, and then wind on more and more lock to compensate for their inability to get the weight in the right place. If you turn in with the back end rotating you wear the tyres perfectly evenly across the tread, despite the aggressive rear camber setup, not mentioning the fact that even with AWD I still wear the rear tyres out at twice the pace of the fronts!
