Just got the call from the service dept to confirm my knuckles, yes both of them, will be replaced under the recall, so the VIN range isn't an exact science.

My 2015 Range Rover has had this top knuckle failure on the passenger side back in June 2021 as I pulled on to my drive way. I had to replace this my self at my expense including a new drive shaft as it pulled out and stripped the spline.
JLR sent me a recall letter early September this year and informed me I could calm my costs back if I had the car checked over at my nearest Land Rover dealership. This took 3,1/2weeks to get booked in they them informed me both top knuckles needed to be replaced even the new one I fitted 18months previously as they were both showing signs of cracking. They also informed me there is a backlog on these parts and we’re not sure when they may get them back in stock.
So i drive home ( carefully) and I await the call
I don’t think it’s right they have let me leave the dealership knowing what could happen.
Does anyone know if theres a collective claim being put together? I would be very interested to know I can’t drive my car or sell it as it stands.

There are parts in stock, mine were ordered on Monday or Tuesday this week and being fitted today.

My car was just out of the VIN range in the V2 Q&A doc, but they have approved the replacement, so hopefully the new ones are better!

My safety check flagged a red warning, said 'unable to drive' when i was notified of the cracks, but i wouldn't be happy driving it knowing they were there.

Got mine back today. Both sides changed even though only one 'needed' it.
Lots of copper grease where the balljoint pin goes into the knuckle.
Seems to drive fine as well.

However the footbrake doesn't work correctly now. The pedal travels a very long way before taking effect. I can't quite understand why - they should have just unbolted the calipers and tied them up out of the way. No need to disturb anything hydraulic, and original discs and pads back on.

So the telephone will be ringing at Marshall Peterborough first thing...

Not a lot to tie them to with the knuckle being removed, besides, it'd get in the way and / or paint damaged. Doesn't make it right, just explaining why they'd remove the calipers.

I understood that copper grease isn't suitable for use on aluminium with steel, or is it silver grease that isn't?

Dissimilar metals. A non metallic grease would be advisable (ceramic based) but copper grease is much cheaper

USA Recall

I have entered a case with NHTSA stating that JLR don't have a safety recall in the USA when they do in the UK and Canada, and have given pictures. I recommend everyone that's had this issue do the same, especially is it actually failed on you.

Marshall would not know the truth if their lives depend upon it. Hopefully you find someone with a conscience. Or better still go to an independent who cares and get the brakes bled. Will save you a world of pain and further issues!

Interesting picture, looking at that, and given you’re in a “dry state” (geographical, not intoxication! Laughing ) does it slightly pour cold water on the “galvanic corrosion” theories some propose?
Everything in the picture looks almost new, looks more like metal fatigue? Whistle “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
