Swapping for a full sized spare - how?

Following a bit of a ballache this week trying to source and fit a new tyre following a puncture in the middle of nowhere in France, I'd like to swap my space saver for a full sized spare. But whilst the flat full size wheel was temporarily stowed in the boot wheel well, it was clearly too big for the floor to close properly, by about 1 or 2 inches.

So.. if you swap your space saver for a full size, do you need a new polystyrene moulding or similar that will take a bigger wheel? How is it done? FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

Thats strange as mine has full size 22" wheel as spare and fits perfect within boot? I cant see that if you spec a space saver it would adjust the floor design?? Is there something in the base of your wheel well to make the space saver fit maybe?

Just take out the polystyrene moulding - that's not required for a full size spare, it sits straight onto the metal floor Thumbs Up

The space saver was not an option on earlier cars, it's designed for a full size spare. So the polystyrene is only to pad out a space saver.

that's what I did too.

just make sure its not rubbing on any of the wiring for the compressor. There is supposed to be a different poly insert, however having bought said insert. it doesnt fit in with a 21" wheel so I suspect a 22" as well. may fit with a 20" possibly as its narrower. but I wouldn't bother.

get on eBay & buy a used wheel put a new cheapo tyre on it and bung it in the boot, at least its there for emergencies. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

All spare wheel sizes have their own insert panel... If your fitting a full size spare, just take out the insert and fit the wheel Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice Thumbs Up

I'm having the remaining 3 Pirelli's fitted on Friday now I'm back in the UK, so I'll keep one of the worn ones to go on a spare rim (when I source one). I'll probably sell the other two worn ones on eBay and/or here too as they still have 4mm of tread on them and even wear so they may be useful for someone trading in, etc. FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

Yes I had the space saver nightmare in France in August like you Censored and was lucky to get a new 22 inch Pirelli tyre at Land Rover in Canterbury. I just managed to get a new black 9012 genuine LR alloy with a new Pirelli tyre on eBay for reasonable money that matches mine. I have just taken the polystyrene spacer out and it fits perfectly. 2019 Autobiography SDV8 Byron blue/black - current
