Bearing type groan on braking

Dear all

I appear to have developed what I would call a bearing type at certain speeds and seems to be more under breaking. I recently had new pads all round but didnt replace the discs as 'just within LR tolerences'

Suspects

Tyres ? Pirelli Scorpions 19"
Front diff ?
Wheel bearing ?
Other ?

Anyone help with other ideas ?
THANKS

My suspicions would be the pads did you replace with OEM or a different brand? Present :2008 TDV8 HSE
Gone Audi A5 2.7TDI
Gone Discovery 3 HSE
Gone Mercedes CLK
Gone Range Rover 2.5 DSE

new pads onto old discs isnt an ideal marriage..i suspect that the pads havnt bedded in yet and i would consider fitting new discs ....

Problem found and fixed. Went back to the LR dealer who did the brakes who thought the noise was more tyre related than bearing / diff. They had rotated the tyres as part of the service 3000 miles ago and it was this that was causing the objectional noise. All changed back and all fixed. Easy to blame the brakes as these had been replaced as part of the service. I have had problems with tyres when rotated before and I dont get why garages do it. Anyway - nice cheap fix for once !

Every wheel wears differntly. Near side Front where differently to offside front becuase of power steering and traffic islands. If alighnment off tyres can cup or razor on the outside shoulders. If you then move a tyre that is worn to another wheel mid life you are then trying to correct the wear pattern and it is the correcting of the wear pattern that makes the noise on the road. Or something like that. Its like swopping front then finding your steering is no longer centred or the car is pulling in one direction of another. Its becuase the tyres have formed there own shape / wear pattern.

Look it another way - what does rotating tyres achieve ? All 4 go around together so how much longer do they really last if rotated ?

I am not a tyre expert but I think I am on the right tracks......

i understand tyre wears etc as i had 22 years in the tyre trade but i cant understand why the groaning noise is now gone since you had the wheels put back in their original positions...i suspect that got bent or caught when the wheels were moved resulting in the noise..

anyways its good that its all been sorted.. Thumbs Up
