Buying online is a 'service' and a minimum order fee is totally reasonable. Even if you pay the postage someone has still got to take the items off the stock shelf, check them against the order, package them up, label them and then get them to the postage room or courier and that doesn't include the previously mentioned transaction fees. You are perfectly within your rights to take your money elsewhere but criticising a AF for not doing something for you for free is Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Used A/F a few times for discs and pads at both ends. They even threw in a tea mug. Well chuffed. Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)
Galaxy 2001-2007
Mondeo Estate 1997-2001
Sierra Estate 1993-1997
Uno Turbo 1987 -1993
Fiesta 1984 - 1987
Fiat 127 1982 - 1984

It's the labour costs thats the killer. I run ecommerce for a company and have experience with this.

The order payment has to be checked & approved (manual in some businesses), then the pick list generated, and assigned to a picker, the product then picked (some warehouses are vast, so several minutes walking). The picked products are usually passed to a packer who checks them, then packs them. Some packaging costs involved here too (have you seen the price of a jiffy bag these days!). Then the packed items are normally checked into dispatch, and assigned to a shipping courier. The packed items are then manually loaded into yorks, cages or sacks before being put in the van/lorry.

A minimum wage employee costs around £15ph all things considered, so 25 pence per minute... it soon ads up...

On top of labour is all the operating costs: ecommerce transaction fees (1.5%+20p), website subscriptions, advertising, warehouse software, warehouse rent/rates, etc.

There's not a lot of margin in most parts. Even trade only get around 7% which leaves little behind. Shipping fees are very low margins.

Just my 2pth... __

Filter arrived today by Royal Mail - it is the right one and it was £11.49 delivered. So as I learned from others on this forum it pays to shop around, particularly now we have the Internet to do it for us. Geoff
