CV Joint Grease - How much of it?

I’m replacing both the inner and outer gator on both rear driveshafts as one had been bodged in the past.

I bought two GKN kits from Island 4x4. However, each kit has come with a mega amount of grease. There’s about 6 sachets per kit.





I’m guessing I don’t need it all as it’ll just spill out and make a right old mess.

Does anyone know what the right amount to put in is after I’ve flushed and cleaned both joints?

There’s 5 sachets of Genuine Grease for CV joints and 2 sachets of Optimol. The Optimal feels heavier. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Right:

The 2 heavier packs of grease (Optimol MS139G) are used on the Outer joint.

The 5 packs of lighter grease (MS141G) are used on the bigger inboard joint. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Only JLR would use different grease for each side of a drive shaft. Rolling Eyes

I’m replacing the outer CV boot (front driver side) on my L322 after it was damaged by Bourton LR when replacing the suspension arms & ball joints (these things happen but they flatly denied doing this despite the obviously fresh dint in the clip where the split is and CV grease leaking out a matter of a few miles afterwards yet no call from them whilst doing the job that it was already leaking, that logic was lost on them when I went back - shame as I’ve used them a few times previously without issues…).

I have the genuine GKN boot kit; outer & inner boots / clips & several packs of CV grease - I’m only replacing the outer boot. Ref. David’s post above, do I take it I use two sachets of the supplied grease in the joint?
