Tax rate reduction date ?

my RR 3.0 was registered on 7/12/18.
At the mo the tax is £570 a year.
so im thinking that if I sorn it before the end of this month, then re tax it on the 8th December, it'll be £180 a year, due to the 5 year old tax reduction.
anyone know if this is the case??
fingers crossed.

The premium is for five years from the second time the car is taxed so you might have another year to go. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

I did wonder what my maths were doing wrong? My mates got a 17 and is chuffed as this year his RFL has dropped… Figured I’d understood him wrong…

Thanks for clearing that up V8 Bob 👍

Yes I agree with V8 Bob, I recent purchased a 06/2017 registered FFRR SDV8 and still paid £537. So in total years you have to wait befor tax drops to £180 is 6yrs.

No i purchased a May 2017 car last December and i paid a reduced tax on it £300 something. It is now £180. I think it depends on the month the car was registered. overfinch modified

2017 cars are “on the cusp”:

My March 1st TDV6 car is “old system” now £320 a year*
From April 1st 2017, its the “new system”, -huge initial payments, then £180* after 5 years registered.
Great if you pick up the “April+” car at 5yrs+

I lost out by 30 days! Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

*Varies according to emissions etc, see DVLA website. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
