metal dust caps

Censored Censored metal dust caps, bought a set of the polished dust caps with the little grub screw to stop them going walk about, any way went to check the tyre pressure and do you think one of the little Censored would come off...no not one, all stuck fast. so apart from having the valves replaced any ideas on how to get the things of, if you have them on your car best have a check to make sure they are not stuck on like my ones.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Seems odd how quickly they have got stuck - I mean they are removed every week as part of the weekly checks of vehicle safety... Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Had them fitted to my discovery, siezed solid all you can do is grip as gently as possible below the valve cap with a pair if grips as you undo and hope a bit of rag or card should stop you damaging the stem of the valve if not ATS i am afraid. Smear them with copper slip.
The ones that came fitted to the RR seem ok but fave a small o ring in them?
good luck Mine was a blue one! Smile

I learned many years ago that metal valve caps are a really bad idea. Plastic every time for me.

It's a chemical reaction between the different metals in the cap/stem, essentially accelerated corrosion. Sounds bad Sad

not like you to get caught out Daveo

Cutting disc would work all you would have to do is remove very top of cap and then should come off easily

or

what about a blowtorch (cooking version) might be able to get the cap to expand with heat if used gently ?

or

Also a hairdryer to expand valve might be gentler than above option then remove using one set of pliers or similar to hold valve and other to remove cap.

Best of luck Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

i think the next set will have to be the ones with the nylon inserts..first set lasted a week, 3 out of the 4 went missing in sainsburys car park,so the next set had the little locking grub screws, never lost any but i bet they tried..so just a warning to all that may have them, get a bot of copper eze on them or get rid before the stick fast.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.
