Looks like a car upgrade is out of the question!!

I have a L322 SC which I was thinking of changing. Currently my insurance cost was £874 last renewal. Which was March 2023.

I was toying with the idea of treating myself to a retirement present of a 2019 L405 SVA P565 SC valued at 70k. However, just done an insurance search on the meerkat site. Got one quote return from all of their insurers, Tesco Bank. And they want £6,900,16p!!!

I don’t think I can justify spending that much for car insurance. So I guess I’m gonna have to stick to the L322. How on earth can anyone realistically justify spending that much to insure a car for one year!?!?

I’ve been looking at a 2019 P400e. Prices have really fallen recently, I’m assuming the insurance hike has a lot to do with this. I was even prepared to take a hit on my RR Sport and the miserly PX they were offering. Best comparison site quote was £2.4k.

In the big scheme of things some would say £2.4k as a percentage cost of owning a 2019 RR is ok. I just can’t bring myself to pay £200 a month for insurance having not made a claim in over 38 years Confused

£6k Shocked That is just madness. This must end sometime in the future, otherwise the market will totally collapse in the 2nd hand RR market!!

Its no so bad in the sticks.

I looked at a 2017 L405 4.4 Vogue SE about £30k if recall.

Insurance was £945.00 full comp etc.

I live in the far SW of Cornwall though.

I think the market has already gone - prices have fallen catastrophically, the trade won’t buy or bid on them, and that’s on top of the general market downturn.

Seems to be a lottery at the moment, I have a 405, a 322 an A4 Convertible and an A3 on a policy with the NFU, 3 drivers, claim about 6 years ago for a stolen TD6, renewal last month was circa £1050 per year for all 4, 20 miles from Glasgow so not too rural, doesn't add up Bow down 2013 L405 Autobiography Baltic Blue

London is one of the main problems, but things are starting to ease as JLR have updated security. overfinch modified

We’ll that’s interesting, having seen them mentioned on here several times got a quote from Tesco.
3 levels of cover starting at £1450 the next £1650 and the dearest £1850. The cheapest didn’t cover the windscreen, probably an essential on a full fat.

Just shows getting lazy with the comparison sites is not the cheapest option by a long way.

Must be a Scotland thing. I was quoted £600 on an RRS SVR, with 0 no claims Laughing

I’ve been thinking about that quote for most of the day. The policy offered is all singing, all dancing, with everything included. Courtesy car, breakdown cover, windscreen cover, legal cover etc. but it’s 10% of the vehicles value as the car I enquired about is 70k.

But living in Notting Hill does appear to be the major stumbling block regarding the price of insurance. I’ve got 14 years no claims, and I’m just the wrong side of 60, so it must be the London thing. Thud
