android system upgrade

hi all was looking for recommendations on upgrading the in car entertainment system on my 07 l322
the old system is the main cause of my battery drain issue i have been having for the last year.. so looking on replacing screen, amps dvd player etc to an android system to eradicate the problem but realise its not as straight forward as it would have been on a earlier model ( fibre optic cables etc.).. any suggestions on units out there on the open market greatly appreciated

just an update whilst searching for units ..found this guy whos advertising a unit for my year anyone had any experience or used this unit..cant get in touch with him untill 4th of january

Im interested in this myself. I didnt realise the head unit etc could cause battery drain. Ive a big drain somewhere as my battery is always on 1 bar when I put the charger on.

In my disco I installed a Carpuride and found it great but as you say the RR is a different beast. Ill follow with interest. Current yokes

Can't remember where I've seen or read it but it's indeed pretty involved and apparently requires wires to be run from the new head unit to the rear of the car where many of the components are found of the current stock set up.

2006 onwards uses the existing looms and DSP, so no need to run cables to the rear. However, it's still a major job to change the screen. If not done already, it's worth using the opportunity to replace the cabin fan. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

What brand is that? The 4x4 menus and trip are still available? Is it on 2 ohms?
Thanks

There's no 4x4 menu on 2010-2012 cars. I can't confirm for 2006-2010 that don't have the digital dash. It supposedly supports it but on 2010 onwards cars it is not programmed in. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Hi,

2012 L322s do have the 4x4 status display, I can select via the head unit for the main display but it wont appear in the dash display unless you select an off road mode.

What brand of head unit is the full width one shown above, I've seen a couple of differnet types on flea bay but I'd rather go with something that has this forums experts approval as confirmed as viable on an L322 without having to rebuild the entire interior.

Cheers

It's the Aoonav system. Android 12. 8GB RAM 128GB ROM. 4G, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

I added a 4G sim, which in my view is well worth it, as I primarily use the head unit itself for sat nav, Spotify, Google Assistant etc, which I find much more usable than CarPlay/Android Auto. It also means all the apps keep up to date.

There's no 4x4i (the name of the app) on this screen for 2010-2012 cars (my assumption is that it gets excluded as the digital driver display shows the same information - don't be fooled by any advert showing the 4x4 infographic. I checked with 10+ sellers when i bought mine and all confirmed the app isnt programmed in for 2010-2012 cars). For 2006-2010 cars I cannot confirm.

Changing the head unit in an L322 is a dash out job (i will add a point that it is only a dash out job in order to access the screws to release the existing head unit, not because of any reconstruction or re-wire). The plus side - the new screen fits on a logically designed mount, meaning future head unit removal is done by 4 screws behind the screen, without needing to remove the whole dashboard. I wish Land Rover had that kind of know-how!

Each to their own, but at half the cost of the Navitech (or similar) CarPlay system, a 12.3" screen with high resolution graphics was a no-brainer for me, and brings the cabin right up to date.

One final observation: the sound quality from the Harmon Kardon system is significantly improved. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Many thanks for that, I'll add to my wish list once I've paid the vig to Santa's henchmen.

I bought one off Ali express, due to arrive 15th January and I'm planning to do a write up on fitting and how well or badly it works once installed.

Any chance there's a guide available for the dash removal process?

That and the cabin fan. A link to the part number or aftermarket model, and walk through for replacing it would be like Christmas coming early... 2012 Supercharged L322

Hi,

There a couple of guides on Youtube on how to strip the dash to get to the headunit, this is one of the better ones in my opinion
