I've seen quite a few mentions of "deplorable" steps here on FFRR.
It annoys me when watching British crime dramas, that they refer to Land Rovers as "jeeps". At least Vera calls hers a Land Rover. Ron B. Don't forget that in English a meter is also a measuring device i.e. electricity meter, not always a unit of length which of course would be metre.
